Default head swap

I am putting 2004 z06 heads and cam on my 99LS1. Do I use stock LS1 head bolts or do I use the 04 head bolts. I dont know what the difference is between the bolts.

You can use standard LS1/LS6 bolts, or use aftermarket bolts

I think the OP means whether or not you can use the 2004 style head bolts. Whichever bolts you use, GM or ARP, they need to be for a 2003 and earlier block. The 2004 block is different.

You might do a search here on head gaskets also. Somewhere around '99 they made a change in those, I just don't recall exactly when.
You'l find details in the archives here.

Use the 97-03 head bolts since you have the 99 block. The bolts for the 04 are 5mm shorter than the ones for the 97-03.
The head gaskets changed on the 99. The 97-98 used a perimeter bolt head that had an "indention" in the head that required a different gasket.
