I just purchased my 02 Z about a month ago and have not driven it too much due to busy schedule and bad weather.
About a week ago I filled up the gas tank with some Shell gasoline.
The next time I started the car the fuel guage was below empty.
I already knew it was the problem common to Vettes. I read up a bit more and decided to purchase some Techron Plus the 20 oz. bottle.
I let it sit for a day and then drove the car, the fuel guage was still on empty. I continued to drive and was about to give up on the Techron and clear the on board computer manually when I glanced at the fuel guage and it started to read the fuel level correctly.
This stuff works, let's see if the problem comes back.
Just thought I would provide some feedback to fellow members.
Often these cars aren't driven much by their owners. If they store their cars with less than a 3/4 tank of fuel, the level sensor can be in air instead of fuel. This causes corrosion on the tank level assembly. This and continued use of low grade fuels will create this issue. Keep putting some techron or equal for a few tanks as well as using top tier fuels and it should get better.
Same problem with mine. It took about 4 tanks with techron before it completely went away. I use a bottle about 6-8 tanks now, never use the low grade fuels anymore. Have not seen the problem in mine for 8 months or so now.
Let me put it this way....Although I mentioned that Techron is "buy 1, get 1" at Advance Auto parts, I actually use Red Line's fuel system cleaner. And YES, I throw some Red Line cleaner as well as some Sta-Bil in the tank before putting it away for the winter.
