Default C-6 shocks on a C-5

I plan to buy some Z-06 shocks for my FRC. Is it correct that C-6 shocks fit? I hope to buy low mileage shocks on the forum when someone is selling. Bob.

I have them too, they fit fine and my car is also lowered. Call Gene Culley, he will fix you up.

Thanks for the referrals guys. For the price below $250 for all 4, there is no reason to get used, especially when you consider you have a 12 month warranty with them as well.

How drastic, or not, was the change in ride? Did you do any other mods, such as sway bars and links?

NOT in my opinion! The difference on my 02 ZO6 was so slight that I thought I wasted my money on a shock up-grade. That is,,, until I put my car thru it's paces in a hard sweeping turn and it didn't have that nasty tendency to skidder across the road!! The car handles SOOO much better in emergent manuevers!

If you have the BASE suspension, you will feel a little more firmness than your use to but nothing annoying or bone jarring. You will enjoy the added stability in turns!!

Great up-grade. Get the Sway bars also. Gene has a great deal on the C6 sway bars and end links and they fit your C5 too!

Bill, I'm assuming you're talking to me. As far as I know, I have the base suspension. Doesn't the Z51 option on the C5 involve the adjustment switch in the console? And what is the glove box code for the upgraded suspension?

No, the Z51 option does not have the switch. The switch is for the selective ride option, F45 or F55.

The code is Z51.

The base suspension code is FE1.

I did the shocks, bars and endlinks all at the same time and have been very happy with the results.

Z51 is a suspension package up-grade from the base suspension and consists of higher rate Springs, Better valved Shocks & a brake up-grade.

The package that your thinking of is either an F-45 or F-55 real time dampening that has adjustable dampening rate shocks and you can change the dampening rate with a selector on the center console. Those packages also use the base suspension springs and sway bars.

In my opinion, the adjustable suspension is NOT worth the money. Stick with a fixed package, like, Z-51 or up-grade or add the ZO6 suspension parts to your base car or change it all to an after market package.

The C6 Shocks will improve the handling but, the addition of better springs and sway bars will make you think you have a new car!!!

I recently did the C6Z shock UG on my 02Z.The OEM's had 62k.

Ride is smoother and handling is very crisp.MUCH better than it was and the best mod I've done.

Got'em from Gene @ GMpartshouse.Gene is a trusted CF vendor and a friend to us Vetter's.Buy from Gene.

Bill, Mark

Thanks for your input. I do have the FE1 suspension. My car's got 92K on it so it may be time for the upgrade.

Thanks again

Mark,

One more question. Which bars did you use? The C5 Z06 bars or the C6 Z51's?

Thanks
