I'm out shopping to replace my 3.5 year old OEM battery before it craps out. No problems but I'm being prudent. I want a new AGM. I'm considering an Optima but I don't like the exposed terminals (safety and appearance issue for me) talked to Optima direct last week and they have stopped making the SPACER Shawn at LAPD confirmed that. Aside from the AC Delco Professional and Interstae Orbital what are my options?
I'm leaning towards the AC Delco unless someone can come up with a solution to correct Optima's exposed terminals.
They were giving out "free" top covers. I think they got over whelmed, but search past posts and get their number. I got one - painted it to match my car color and am very pleased.
I got the Optima Red Top because every time I went out into the garage to work on my car, the next day I would not start and I have a 2001. Since I got the Optima it has started first crank every time.
Sorry about that. I did have mine for about 3 months before I found out about the covers. The two posts that stick out the top did have covers for them included with the battery. I did not mind that. I only went for the top because the "red" of the Optima did not match my Mag Red engine area. I had already painted the top of the battery black when I found out about the cover.
I would not let those posts stop you from getting a great battery. Llike I said, post covers are included. Otherwise - try for sale items.
The nice thing about getting the ACDelco Platinum is that, should you ever have to return or have the battery checked, the vendor is a short ride away. I wouldn't want to have to ship a battery back for a warranty replacement, but that's me and it's a major consideration when I'm looking to purchase anything that my car relies on to get anywhere.

Shipping a battery to the manufacturer for replacement makes no sense! If there is ever a warranty problem I would just return it to the seller. In my case, Interstate Battery. I think they are a nationwide chain. Batteries Plus also sells Optima and I think they are all over too.
I recently bought an Optima red. I went down to the auto parts store and pulled two of the black plastic post covers off a new battery. I took them up to the counter and asked the guy if he would sell them to me. He said (as expected) to just keep them. I took them home and stuck them on the Optima top posts. They make the battery safe and look fine. :D :D :D
It moot now, I went with the AC Delco AGM Professional Platinum series. 72-month warranty and the local dealer says I deal with him not a 1-800 number. He also cut me a break @ $124 since they were swapping my tires and sensors to my new Chrome Z06 wheels. All his parts/work is guaranteed. Plus he knows my car and me and supports our Corvette Club. Not sure about some of the other places mentioned.
My Optima came with the top posts already covered with plastic insulators. I would be surprised if a new one didn't have them already installed from the factory. When I was at a Pep Boys recently, I noticed the folks their removed them on their stock for easy charging. Perhaps if you ask them not to or if you request from Optima, you could get a set of terminal covers at no or minimum cost. The plastic cover that Optima use to have were a bit more costly and I belief that is the reason they no longer provide them for free. Did you contact them to find out if you could purchase them?
I called Optima for the cover (terminal caps were on battery when I bought it), they said they no longer provide direct instead they supply them to dealers for sale. I e-mailed LAPD and they said they had them on order.
