Default Loose Axle Nuts?!?!

I read on the forum about some people finding loose axle nuts on '08's and earlier. Torque is 160 ft. lbs. There is a TSB on this "Problem" #07-04-95-001 for cars thru '08.

Checked the '09.
Left side 160 ft. lbs.
Right side 20 ft.lbs.?! WTH!

Checked the '02.
Left side 160 ft.lbs.
Right side 40 ft.lbs.!

Torqued Right Side of '02 to 160 value but taking the '09 in for this issue Monday. Quality control?

It makes sense,I guess... Both sides are threaded with right-hand threads. The nut bears AGAINST the axle flange which bolts to the wheel. The nut is threaded ONTO the supply of torque. There is always a small amount of play between the splines between the two. Everytime you step on the gas, the shaft tries to turn with respect to the flange(nut). Over time, you get what you see. By this logic, the left side should tend to tighten. I believe the factory torque spec for these nuts is 118 lb-ft...
The outer CVs are identical cuz its cheaper. Its not a quality control problem as much as it is a way to make these cars affordable. Ferrari's might have left hand threads on the right side axle nuts...

IMHO, of course.

I've had the same problem and 118 lb-ft is the correct torque for the axle nuts.

According to the TSB it reads "160 lb. ft. be applied to the axle nut with loctite". It's in the bulletin and i have stated the Left axle nuts on our cars Are 160 lb. from the factory.

This is clearly a quality control problem. Cost should never be an issue when it comes to "building things Right" especially a $50,000 car.

Here is the TSB for anyone interested. It lists '04-'08 cars. Our cars are '02 and '09 with this issue.
