If you are serious about it, check with the vendors,
somebody sells "cat covers" that cover the rotor hats
and eliminate this problem. I even think they came in
different colors.
For just a couple of bucks you can get some "hat covers" that will cover up the part of the rotor that does not engage the pads. They come in several colors as well.
If you want to do it right, however, zinc washed rotors, or rotors with aluminum hats are the way to go.
what's up with the hat covers? Where can you get them at? I haven't seen them on any of the forum vendor's sites (Maybe not looking in the right place).
Dude I knew what you were referring to. I asked the same question 6 months ago. And I got...Drive it, hit the brakes...
Anyway.. Here is what I did. Paint is cheap looking especially over rust. Get em plated and done professionally. Check out my pic. Also look at the caliper brackets. I had them plated too. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=237398
Well sounds like WD40 then painting is my answer. I think the chroming and covers are nice but I dont have chrome rims and those covers are a waste of $$ IMO.
RCswish,
Another overlooked rust problem is the cooling fin portion of the rotor. These produce a ton of rust, and it slings it on the inside of the rim eventually damaging the clear coat, chrome, bare aluminum or what ever. Zinc washed is best but VHT 900 degree brake and rotor paint sprayed directly into the fins (after masking off the braking surface) helps a lot. This stuff is stubborn!! No Rolleyes! :D  :flag
