Default How to clean Rust from Rotors????

My car has caught a little rain then BOOM, rust on the rotors. It is fairly new rust if you can even call it that (copper colored Residue?). How can I clean this off w/o doing anything harmful to my rotors. Thanks :)

Same thing will happen when you wash the car. As mentioned, drive it a little and stop once or twice. Voila! The rust is gone!

You could spray WD-40 or silicone spray on them to keep the rust from coming back!:lol::lol::lol:

WD-40 or silicone spray on the rotors doesn't last long. For a real longtime solution, spray on your brake pads also. Better yet use synthetic bearing grease on brake pads, it lasts longest, plus your brakes will NEVER make noises.

Who cares if brakes work, LOOKS ARE EVERYTHING !

Ditto to the above....The rust will most likely be rubbed off in the first 200 feet of driving.

Thanks for the snide remarks and rolling eyes:lol: ! There are so many rolling eyes in here I thought I was in a room with a group of teenage girls....I know, I know, stupid questions get stupid answers (it's pretty funny though:lol:) . I will try to be a bit more articulate with this post. I am not concerned with the portion of the rotors that the brake pads create contact with, I have rust on the center of the rotor. I believe it is called the rotor hat. This rust does not go away when I turn the key, buckle up, adjust the visor and drive the car. The Silver painted portion in the picture below is the part of the rotor I am concerned about. (I stole this pic off another post :blueangel: )

Maybe use some rustloem paint (black) in the hat area (center). Anything to keep the moisture off the unprotected surface that causes surface oxidation. ;)

I would paint it in a similar way .... I know that my dad painted his to match the car ..... Electron Blue ... and also did the calipers in that color ... it looks really good and keeps the rust away ...

Hi,
I have had good luck using a rust converter (not Navel jelly) from the hardware store. This stuff turns rust into some compound that will not let the base metal rust again! Several brands are available all of which turn a rusted surface black. The trick is to leave some rust on the surface to get the reaction. Try some place like Pep Boys that has a DIY auto paint section. You can also paint over this treated metal as it acts like a primer. I have even brushed this stuff down the rotor cooling vanes a ways to clean up the OD of the disk. It looks much better than rust even without paint.
Like the ad says: “Better Living Through Chemistry”.
Good luck,
Steve

Personal grooming tip: It will stain your hands & finger nails black. You may want to use some of those sissy rubber gloves (Like I do!).

Ok Swish, I've got a serious answer for you instead of my previous "smart as-" reply.

This works for regular street driving NOT race track driving. I got some high temperature Al Paint that is used on exhaust systems and painted the Hats. It held up fine on the street, but when I went to the race track a few weeks ago (Summit Point), it destroyed the paint because the brake rotors got very hot. I also noticed that Eckler's has rotor hats for sale in either red or black. I'll try to be more serious next time , but I can't guarantee it. :D
