Default Please help with tire selection

Ok, I need some direction on tires. The car (04Z) is a 95% street car with about once a month trips to the strip (summer/total=9 trips). I love getting into her from a dig, getting on the highway and such. But she spins like a bitch, even with NT-05's and R888's with heat in them, I've even tried the Invo's of a buddy. Just your basic full bolt on LS6 with a little head work and a cam(440ish rwhp), but I do spray it a little also .

Basically does anyone think a 345R19 will hold 625ish rwhp on the street ?? I'm not worried about the wear rating as long as they stick on the street. Please don't mistake spirited digs onto the highway with silly street racing.

Or am I doomed to have two different wheel/tire combos depending on how I feel like driving ??

I have a home made drag pack setup with Hoosier DR's but they are super sketchy at highway speeds in a curve but with the new quarters (L5) they look funny (sunk in).

The wheels I currently own and would like to run are the 2010 GS 18x9.5 and 19x12.
The tires I've considered in 345/30R19, in this order.
1) Hoosier R6
2) Michelin PSC
3) Nitto Invo's=not that impressed
4) ??

IMHO its a much more difficult to build a dual purpose car. Trailer queens are specific in everyway, unlike all around street cars.

Am I expecting to much from the tire ?? Or maybe I'm misunderstanding the whole heat in the tire deal .

I have a FI setup that will be complete some time in 2011 but if I can't even put down this power....well you get the point.

By the way my clutch is starting to act up .

Does anyone know what tire the C6 ZO6 guys who want traction are running ??

Please let the flaming begin or strong opinions and experiance are also welcome .

I think you hit the nail on the head! A front engine, rwd car with as much power as yours will usually require rolling carefully into the throttle for the first couple gears unless you're running a drag tire.

If you've already run R888s and Nittos without any luck, you're pretty much SOL for a street tire. You could run BFG DRs or M/T DRs but they only come in 18s at best I think - plus they are only marginally streetable. Have you thought about stepping down to a 17 or an 18 for more sidewall? 19s are for looks, not performance. Other than that you're pretty much dreaming of getting traction with 600+rwhp

I've got a set ot MT ET Street II's 315x30x18 I'm going to try. They have a stiffer sidewall but I'm still not sure they will meet my handling requirements. I don't think I'll find anything DOT with more stickem'.

I've had those MT's and I love them. I done highway launchs through top of 2nd gear with no wheel spin and not heating them up.

Yeah Dope, I understand the 19's are for look statement. But where can I find an 18 that will support 345's (with the proper B/S)?? With out the heavy replicas or $$CCW's (ect..), there's not much of a choice. And yes, I do think the 345's are the way to go as far as traction is concerned (on the street). I've been considering the new Nitto NT-05R's in 345/30R19's. They have had great reviews, but thats so subjective its hard to swallow.

And yes Dope, I run 17 all around on my drag pack set up, Hoosier DR's 315/35R17 and M&H 26/4.5R17. All on C5Z speedlines (17x9.5 rear/17x4.5 narrowed fronts). They are killer as far as traction is concerned but SUCK for handleing. Thats why I'm looking for the best all around tire, with traction being the first concern and handleing being a close second.

FYI, don't forget I went with L5's, so my original C5Z's are sunk in 2" and thats why I chose C6Z wheels (cheap/light and decent looking).

Does anybody have feedback on the "bad boy" Michelin PSC's ??

If you still have C5 brakes, I would have stock C5-Z wheels widened to 12-13" for the 345's. This way you can have a better selection of tires.
