Default Shift Boot Replacement - HELLLLPPPP!

Maybe some of you guys can help me. I bought a new C5 shift boot. I've already got an aftermarket ****, so getting that off and back on is no problem. But the instructions for the shift boot require me to remove the surrounding housing, on the center console, first. I looked and I felt around and under it, last night, and I don't have a CLUE as how to get this thing off? Couldn't find any "Torqx" screws, or whatever those things are called. I hesitate to pull too hard on the damn thing, as I don't want to break it. Does anyone have any experience with replacing the shift boot and getting the center console cover off and back on? Appreciate the help!

The shift boot is removed by squeezing the snap ring that holds it into the console. If you probe with your fingers where the boot meets the console you will feel some give.

Push this snap ring inwards towards the shaft and lift gently. Do this working your way around the oval of the shift boot and it should come out.

In no way do you have to remove the console to install the shift boot. It snaps in and out.

The emergency brake boot is a different story and does equire the console be removed.

As far as the shift boot it should slide off of the shaft after you have smapped it out of the console and removed the shift ****.

The stock shift boot is weaved into the plastic snap ring and is also glued onto it.

carefully pull the boot from the snap ring and glue.

When replacing the new boot on the old snap ring just weave it into the snap ring like it was when you removed it. No need for you to use any glue.

Slide it over the shaft, snap it in the console and replace shift ****.

Hope this helps and best of luck with it.

Chuck

Jeez, didn't realize how many things this would come in handy for. :)

Here ya' go. Part of the shifter install involves pulling the boot off. Chuck is correct - the console does not have to come off.
