c5 differential failure
Hi:
Last night I was at the track testing my 2000 corvette and the it suddenly made a sound like a rattle and grease lube came out the back between the tranny and diff. I could not move the corvette even though I could shift into any gear .I know I will have to to remove the diff. to check it out, but base on your experience do you think the tranny suffered (6speed). Thanks guys for your advice. The launch was at 3500 rpm.

Sounds as though your differential case has cracked or possibly the tail of the tranny case has cracked.
Gonna have to get under the car & visualy inspect for cracked pieces.
Now is the time to remove the t/tube,tranny & rear diff.
Good time to install, Tick M/C, clutch bleeder, clutch & related items,
& beef up the tranny, rear end & install an ECS diff/tranny brace.
Looks like alot of time & money, on the horizon to do things right.
Good luck.

On C5's these are the parts that usually break at the starting line:
-diff case/ring and pinion gears
-diff left output shaft
-trans tailshaft housing
-trans main output shaft
Only way to tell is to take the trans/diff out to inspect. Broken output shaft can't be seen unless the diff and tran are seperated.

You broke the main output shaft, sucks but thats tranny and rearend both needs to open up and upgrade with C6 Z06 guts.
