In order to open the R. headlight on my 1998 vette I have to open the hood and turn the **** only slightly and then use the switch to open it. In the past I had to replace the gears but this is something else. Can some help me, it's only on one side, the other side works fine.

Did you replace the stock gear with a brass one? Have you opened the motor to see what the gear looks like?
Yes, it was replaced with a brass gear and it was over a year ago.
Hey Larry, Did you install the T brace with the brass gear. If not, the gear could be off just a bit. The T brace kit sells for $7.00 and keeps the brass gear in a perfect place. Without it, the gear tends to float.
I don't know what the T brace is. Can you tell me what it does?
The T brace keeps the brass gear centered and stationary and not floating. After you pull the headlight assembly, its a 10 minute job to install. If you need a web site, let me know.
Yes, please give me the site. Do you think that's what my problem is, did you put one on your car? It's such a hassle to get out and open the hood everytime you want the headlight to open.

I put in the brass gear AND the T brace on both headlights. They work the way they did when new. Go to www.rodneydickman.com then click on the left "corvette headlight gear",....you will see the T brace kit for $7.00. You will also get the idea of how it holds the shaft/gear in the correct position and not float.
I do think that is your problem.....as it was mine.
