Hey everyone Can anybody help me?????? My C5 has been at the dealership since Sept due to the fact it needs a BCM There is not one anywhere in the country and GM states they do not know how long it will take before they get one. They say they are waiting on the supplyer. Can anyone Help me or give me a way to Go. Thanks
Sorry it has taken so long to reply. Here is what they say at the dealership. First I only took it before I took it to the dealership was because the A/C was blowing hot on one side and cold on the other. In addition, It would sometimes crank and sometimes not. I tried all this below before I took it believe I know how they are. I got with Bill this forum and I checked all the grounds, cleaned them, checked for any exposed wires, and repaired the one I found. This fixed a lot of the codes but not the A/C or BCM codes or the Security light staying on. Next, I took the Switch out and cleaned it and I replaced the key. That worked for about a day but the security light was still on. Then someone told me I had to program the key with the BCM. So I did this by the steps they gave me which was the deal where you turn it on for X amount of time and then off and then repeat it several times. I did this and it worked. Now the A/C was hot on the other side and cold on the other. Next, I had a new key fob and it stopped working. Then when I locked the doors and came back the next day the car would do nothing. Therefore, I reprogrammed the key again and guess what it cranked but the security light was still staying on and would not go off. I then took it to the Dealership and they first replaced the A/C control unit in the dash with a 2000 model because they stated and showed me a bulletin that said this was the only way to fix this. They then fixed the security system some how I do not know what they did. Anyway, they called me and told me the car was ready and everything was working great Grand total $ 1268.75 I told them to keep it a day and make sure. They called me the next morning and said it would not do anything. They said the BCM was loosing its memory and the BCM was bad. The car has been their since September and no one can get me a BCM. GM said has soon as a supplier got all the parts to but one together they will get it. I have asked about a rebuilt one or one from a Salvage yard and they said they can only be programmed once and it would have to be with my VIN number. I then asked about one from a different year like the A/C and they said it would not work. The car is a 1998 with 97 k on it and up until now has been a great car. The only problem I have ever had was the oil pressure pegged out but I know how to repair that. So now, I am lost as to what to do. Thanks for any HELP.
I do not know the BCM but I would think that if, the module itself, was responsible to keep something alive in memory, it should have it's own battery or a memory chip that had a battery built in. One other possibility, if there is memory that needs battery backup, then 12 vdc way high for most memory chips I know of. 3.6 vdc batteries are commonly used to do this. So there maybe be a circuit in the module that would drop the 12 vdc down. I don't know if these modules open up easily but it might be worth a look.
Memory chips that had their own battery backup, have fallen out of style so to speack and finding a replacement chip might be the hang up on getting this module rebuilt/repaired. Is the dealer trying to rebuld?
Good luck. I would like to offer help, just don't know the BCM.

See,, I told you the STEALERSHIPS Bastards are lying to you!
If it were me, my car would be OUTOFTHERE! Search for a BCM on your own. There available and yes, theres a procedure for BCM PCM sync and it works. That BCM is expensive (last time I purchased one it was around $300) and by the time they screw with installing it and programming it, you will loose another $1200!!!!
The dealer will have to TECH2 in the RPO codes that your car came with (example F-45 Real Time Dampening suspension ) but that is NOT difficult. They charged me an HOUR LABOR to do it. (which is Way longer than it should have been)
I bought a brand new BCM for my '99 some years ago, just in case, off the auction site. I sold it to another forum member for the same price I paid for it and he was able to take it to a dealer and had them program it to the car with the Tech2. The member reported back it was working just fine, so yes, they can be replaced as Bill said and yes, the dealer is lying to you.
I went by the dealership today (Sunday) yes they are closed but I looked in my car and the BCM in on the Floorboard. I am going to just pay them what I owe and go get my car. This is bull**** my car has been their since Sept I should have known there are no any real Techs anymore just some **** heads who R&R parts and hope for the best. Looks like the BCM is just unplugged so I guess I just plug it back in. I guess I will take it to another Stealership to have one programmed when I find one. I will get the codes ASAP and post them.
Its not an absolute that its bad yet. Yes, it does happen but very seldom. Bill can best advise on tracking the problems down and verifying if its bad or not.
The Dealership that your dealing with could care less about you and your car. Its all about the WALLET and whats in it!
I have a damn Volt meter and common sense and I could have diagnosed it for you in hours. They have TECH 2 and "SPECIALIZED" training. They have had your car FOR MONTHS! I'm ashamed that their calling them selves technicians..
Do your research, find the BCM availability and price options and go armed with knowledge.
Print this out and go visit the service manager. Snap the BCM back in, ask them to fully charge the battery (Its got to be almost dead by this time). Once the battery is charged, CLEAR all the DTCs and see if it will start..
If you have to pay more cash, I would be very up-set!
Hope you get your car back soon.

Get your car home and WE will get you back on the road. This really isn't that difficult and you with a little guidance, can resolve this issue.
.Hey, everyone just an update on my Car. I had the Stealership put the BCM back in, charge the Battery, and clear the codes. It still would not start. I am going to go get it on Thursday or Friday. I ordered a BCM from AutoECMS for $325 and when its gets here I will get someone with a tech2 to come to my house and program it. Thanks to everyone for all the help. In addition, a special thanks to you Bill you are the man and I wish you where running GM. Hell I’m a cop and I arrest people for stealing less than what this Stealership is stealing from people.

Good to hear you're making progress on this. One of the things to remember in getting a BCM set up, is that it has to be able to "recognize" your ignition key on startup, otherwise it will block the fuel pump enable and no start will result.
If the person coming out to help you is capable, they will know this, but I still think you may have to take it, the BCM, not the whole car to a GM dealer (any GM dealer, not just the one that was screwing you around) so it can be connected to the GM data terminal (TIS?) and get your VIN/RPO codes (options) programmed. It is also called a "Tech Terminal" and connects to GM's database. It allows the VIN number to be plugged in and then in turn spits out all the correct info for that particular car which then gets downloaded.
A proper VIN number being programmed into it will ensure no RPO code issues or Theft Deterrent issues and IF the BCM was the actual cause of the problem to begin with, it will start right up.

Not a lot of individuals with a tech2 devise..... I had to replace my BCM because of a water leak in the car under dash on the passenager side of the car....BCM got wet and i lost functions with various switches and electronics...Bought a new unit from Gene at GMPartshouse.com for 300.00 and had a very good dealership in my area that dealt with and specialized with corvettes and repairs. they completed the install and sync for 50.00...I thought that was fair. the whole process with the install and sync less that half a day to get back and 50.00 ot of pocket.

Heres the EMEGENCY BCM to PCM sync procedure. You do NOT need the TECH2 to allow the car to start and run. Just to program any factory ROP codes that you have installed from the factory or were installed after purchase.
BCM/PCM RELEARN PROCEDURE
You will need to conduct the PCM/BCM relearn process. This matches their handshake ID's and allows them to talk to each other.
Do this before you worry about VATS issues:
1. Turn on the key for 11 minutes.
2 Turn off the key for 30 seconds.
3. Repeat 1&2 two more times.
4. Turn on the key for 30 seconds.
The car should start and run with the new BCM. Good luck and report back on your progress.

This will sync the PCM to the New BCM but all of your RPO options will not be retained. You will need a TECH II to program them into the new BCM.

Before you replace the BCM, please read and post the DTCs that are present. Also report the status of the IPC Security light.
So, what did the service manager say when you wanted your car back???
He just said when i get ready for them to complete the job just tow it back. I said thanks for everything and left. Hey they goy me this time. But thats ok becouse what goes around comes around. There day is near. I will list the codes when i get her home.
