Over this past summer my trans has slowly gotten worse from shifting from 2-3. I knew the day was coming as these transmissions are notorious for this. It started out that I would hit my rev limiter almost instantly when I got up in the higher rpms in second on a 100 shot. Now even on motor instead of shifting it just goes straight to my rev limiter from 2-3 at wot. Under normal driving conditions everything works fine. I have changed shift points, line pressure etc. So im assuming my transmission needs an upgrade. I can’t afford to buy a whole new transmission so I would like have this one rebuilt. I have a ’97 C5 A4 that makes 400 rwhp/365 rwtq on motor and I want to spray up to about a 150 rwhp shot. The car sees the track about 2-3 times a year and the occasional street race other than that I drive it to work. I have a Yank 3600 stall converter and the transmission has a Transgo HD-2 shift kit already installed, other than that all drivetrain parts are stock. I run 285 Nitto 555r’s on stock wheels and don’t plan on using slicks at the track any time soon.
What transmission components should I upgrade to handle at least 600 rwhp?
I am useing a Finish Line Transmission with great sucsess. Check
with Yank and see who they recomend--FLT.
Also you should consider new and better driveshaft couplers.
RPM sells a good set.
Usually you will be all right in your power range for a level 3 or 4
build. Good luck
Yes - I agree with the driveshaft coupler up-grade.... I'm needing one now! a bit of a winter project.... easier to do with the trans/diff out for sure though..... should have done it last summer when I did the gears and TC.... oh well.....
If i had the $2500 for a new transmission that wouldnt be an issue, but like i initially stated i dont have the money for a new trans.
Can a person buy the internal parts of the stage V from rpm and have someone install them to save cost?
That's not a "new" transmission. It's a rebuilt and they will take your core.
Keeping it real and not trying to **** you off: If someone sold you the parts to a Ferrari, you took it to a shop and paid them to put it together, you would not end up with a Ferrari. That's a fact.
Getting the parts from RPM isn't going to get you an RPM transmission. Your best bet is to try and find a good, used RPM transmission in the parts section. Rossler, Finishline and a few others will do the job too. One more alternative is to baby your car until you can afford to fix it right.
