ok i am a new Vette owner its a 98 with 67k on it...i have read about the battery going dead pretty quick in these cars..here in NC its been fairly cold lately, last weekend i went out and started car,it took about 4 to 5 times before it would run (kept cutting off).. if finally started an ran fine and had no more issues that day.. this week i orderd a CTEK 3300 charger, so i went out this AM it was about 30 degrees and after 3 times trying to crank the car went completly dead i mean no lights the remote would not even lock doors?? Hooked up my craftsman charger with the crank mode and got it started then it had a message PULL KEY-WAIT 10 SEC ?? I let it run and drove it down the road and back and it restarted fine and the message was gone. i hooked up the CTEK and am going to see how that does keeping the battery charged. the battery in the car is less than a year old its a off name Auto Zone one i think..would trying to crank the car run down a battery that quick??? also it sounds like its not getting enough fuel to cold start to keep it running i hear the fuel pump priming up..its Fuel injected so i shouldn't have to pat the gas.. right??
Keep in mind that these cars require a strong battery to start and run properly without error codes. You absolutely need to keep it on a battery maintainer if it's not a daily driver, especially in cold weather. Are you sure that your replacement battery has sufficient CCA's. These cars requireba lot of juice to keep all of the electronic components happy especially when starting.
If you have a volt meter, start the car and make sure you are reading about 13 plus volts on the battery terminals to show that your alternator is doing its job and charging. I don't know what it is about the vette but it eats batteries. Just buy a good battery with a good warranty so when it goes bad you can replace it without much cost.
Agree....got to have a good battery and battery connections or this car will give you problems. Make sure you have the correct CCA (i think minimum 700) and reserve amp battery. lots of post on that and the CL. Cold weather brings out the battery problems. Once you get the car right they love the cold air!
i will check the crank amps on the battery and may invest in a Optima,it just seemed strange it would turn over and crank 3 times and cut right off....then be dead..and why it wont stay running???.....thanks for the help..
do you get any error codes? After it cranks three times and then dies, if you turn your headlights on do you have headlights or is the battery so dead you get nothing?

Check your connections down by the starter. That wire can get hot, burn and cause issues. Got to address that battery issue first. Buy a good battery, no need to spend the money on an Optima unless you just like that brand. Do a search on batteries and you will get a lot of options. Read the column lock stickiey and get a CLB before you get bit.
