Default ANOTHER lowering question

And no it's not about how to lower, how far to lower or why to lower.....

The question I have is what do you guys and gals with lowered Vettes do about your front air dams ?

Do you cut them down to be shorter or just leave them ??

even at stock height they hit stuff.

they have a spring mechanism that lets the center one fold back.

they are cheap and easy to replace when the get too scuffed up.

only taking them off which is not a good idea would sop this.

trimming is unnecessary.

And yes I do realize that even at stock height they still hit. My center piece and corner pieces scrape both coming in and out of my parking garage EVERY DAY...... But I guess you guys are correct, they only cost about $80 bucks for the whole set.

I was just wondering what the rest of you did.

I ran a piece of 3/4" tape along the bottom edge and then used that as a cutting guide to cut that much off.

I used a band saw and cut one inch off.

Just let it scrape. Why would you want to cut it down? Not only does it aid in cooling but it keeps some air from going under the car and causing lift.

Technically it is, but how fast do you go? My car is stable well into triple digit speeds and still cools fine when it's moving.

I would not go lower than the stock bushings allow. I've ran cut bushings, no bushings and went back to just plain old Z06 springs lowered as far as the stock bushings would allow. (the way it was designed).
w/o shorter travel shocks or shorter overall shocks/coil overs..you would lose more than you gain.
Unless you drive all SMOOTH roads and really just want the slammed look..don't cut the bushings. Just save up for coil overs..

My spoiler is still the original. As stated, my rubbed even before lowering. I feel as one of the other members pointed out, more surface area = more air into the radiator area. In addition, in spots where I worry a little bit such as speed bumps, it can be used as an early warning device as long as you are going very slow. I've used the front sound several times for measuring up grades and sloges, even pulling into car washes. The best thing you can possibly do if you lower your car is to get some quality rocker panel guards installed, with the increased area at the jacking points. Trust me, no matter how careful you are, there will be that one time that you are glad you invested in them.

When it scrapes it sounds like sh**. I mean it literally sounds like some POS garbage car coming down the street when it scrapes, so in my book its not cool at all to listen to that noise or have anyone else hear it either. Ive gone 160+ with no center air dam or /side air dams at all before and it causes no problems with lift or cooling issues even before I opened up front plate area. The center air dam will cause more lift at high speeds as lots of air will be forced up under hood into engine compartment which you dont want vs not having one at all and letting air pass under car.
For me it works just fine with no air dam. To each his own preferences depending on your cooling issues if you still have stock radiator/fans.
