99 TPS sensors do not fit 2007 C6 wheels
Help.... I have a 99 Vette that I have installed factory 2007 C6 wheels on. My problem is the 99 sensors do not fit the wheel properly. I understand you have to run the correct sensor for the system to work. My sensors are large rectangular units. Is there a smaller sensor that will communicate with the 99 available? What is a good price, and where can I purchase them. I would really like to keep the sensors functioning. Thanks in advance.....

The late C5 sensors are smaller. To use them all you need to do is up-grade the FOB /TPS receiver module ( RFA Module) "Remote Function Actuator" to a 2001+ module. Heres are a couple of procedure and all thats need to do it:
- C5 Tire Pressure Monitor Sys Up-Grade 97-2000 to 2001 RFA System:

Hope this helps.

I have been told that there is a new smaller TPS sensor that fits the C6 wheel. It will communicate with the 99 without having to change the RFA module. GM part number 25981210. It is supposed to be a direct replacement for the original design. Is anyone using these new style sensors on their 97-2000 C5's?
Who has the best prices on these?

I am interested. Do the alter the position of the sensor inside the wheel? When the old large sensors were mounted they did not seal properly against the rim. My wheels are the stock 07 star design.

Mine did not seal properly against the inside of the factory 07 star wheel. Perhaps the gumby wheels have a different interior contour. The new sensors have a small recess around the valve stem where my old large rectangular sensor are flat across the entire surface.

I just put 4 new sensors on my 99 and they are red in color and a bit smaller than the stock 97-00. they are from tirerack and are AirAware P/N 28006 and work just fine. another thing is the valve stem looks a little longer. hope this helps

Bill, if all of these Transmitters and receivers are working on the frequency of 315MHZ why can't they be interchanged? Is there a special code being transmitted to the receivers which identify the year groups? I understand the synchronizing to the specific vehicle for operation. I have been unable to locate the theory on the specific keyless remote receivers. Would you have some info? Thanks

Here are a fe picture of the TWO different sensors Early and Late. Notice the size and difference between the sealing soft ware. One uses a gasket type thick rubber seal and the other (early) uses a simple O ring for the seal.
EARLY SENSOR with O ring seal:
LATE SEAL with gasket type rubber seal:
Compareson beteen both:
Late sensor installed on a ZO6 wheel:
Sensor banded inside wheel:
Hope this helps!

Hit the contact button and ask if the newer C5 version is smaller than the old 97-00 sensor. They got back to me with my questions promptly. If not mistaken the 97-00 sensors were manufactured by Scharader.

This is a picture of the old style 97-2000 sensor, installed on a C6 wheel. I did not have any problem with it sealing. However, I used a new #9 o-ring, which seems to be a bit thicker than the o-rings originally used on the older sensors. You might want to try this.
Another possibility is to get some of the grommet seals used on the C6 sensors. The C6 sensors use a grommet type seal rather than an o-ring. This type seal slips right on to the C5 valve stem. However, it appears that you would probably want to use the grommet seal in combination with the regular o-ring, since you would need to fill the grove in which the original o-ring sets. The later C5 sensors also use a grommet seal that appears similar to the one used on the C6 sensors.

Thanks Bill. Understand the difference in physical mounting but according to Schrader from 1997 - 2000 and all years after that use 315 MHZ TPMS transmitters. I'll continue to research but not sure why the RFA receivers would need to be changed out from different year groups. I'll keep looking, I'm sure they changed part numbers for some reason.....Same reson they say the Key FOBs must be ordered by year groups....but all operate on 315 MHZ...

I found it...even though they all operate on the same frequencies the receivers and transmitters have a year group specific code programmed into them. These codes must match for the transmitter and receiver to communicate. I am also reading there are some specific TPMS tools that have the ability to read and re-program these codes. All seems like a lot of trouble for a simple $60.00 replacement....

I have found Discount Tire offers smaller replacement sensors that are red in color, and fit the C6 wheel perfectly. They are supposed to communicate with the stock 99 system without any mods, and are priced at $95 each. Is that a good price for replacement sensors. I have decided to just keep my old sensors on my original wheels, and purchase new ones for the C6 wheels.
