Default Is this an LS1?

I am still trying to verify what the Dealership put in my car two years ago when we swapped out the Long Block under warranty. I had a stock LSI in my 2001 Coupe, but the Dealership said they were having trouble locating a new LS1 Long Block and said they were going to get a "Z06 Long Block" instead from Scoggin Dickey in Lubbock.

Is there any way to tell from these photos/casting numbers of the new Long Block what this actually is? I am assuming if it were some flavor of ZO6, that I would notice more of a difference?

That would be a LS1. The 241 casting number on the head tells it all. If it was a LS6 it would say 243.

+1 if it was an LS6 Long block it would have the 243 heads.

Although it could just be an LS6 block.

Try this source John. It has some specific references to that block casting number.

http://www.enginebuildermag.com/Arti...all_block.aspx

It seems as though this block was used for the first Gen III LS6s ("windows" cast inside for bay-to-bay breathing) and then again for all the Corvette LS engines in at least '03 and '04. So to answer your question, it would seem to be a later version of the LS1 engine.
I didn't do any research on the "241" head castings, but that shouldn't be too hard.

Starting in 01 all the engine blocks and intake manifolds were the same. The Z06 had better heads (243's) and bigger cam. That is a 01-04 LS1

You sir have an LS6 BLOCK (LS1 Cam) and LS1 heads - just like all the 2004 LS1 engines the blocks were LS6 (but with the LS1 cam) - they have better metal! You scored!

Thanks,Matt

You got a better piece but no real gains in HP.

Dammit, two years already? For the starter breaking the block, right?

I'm glad you asked that question. I was curious about what led to the warranty replacement.

Your answer sounds like what the Dealership described to me 2 years ago - LS6 Block with LS1 Heads and Cam.

Yup... 2 years last month. I still take a deep breath every time I turn the ignition key! We eventually had the whole CSI Team out there to find a cause - at least 20 mechanics, warranty authorities, dealership managers, insurance adjusters, you name it - never found the actual cause.

Thanks for adding the link to your original thread.

Although the failure cause was never actually determined, I really think that after two years, you can start to breathe easy again.
