Intermittently my car will not start on the first turn of the key. It will crank then idle rough around 500 RPM. Once I feather the gas it will come to life and drive normal. Anyone else experience this>?
That would be an indication of an injector leaking down when parked. The result is the fuel rail not being pressurized when starting, causing a hard start. The smoke is from the excess fuel being dump into the cylinder until it is burned off, also resulting in a rough idle.
This can be easily confirmend with a fuel pressure gauge. When you turn the key off, fuel pressure should maintain. If you have a leaky injector, fuel pressure will drop quickly.
You can also remove the fuel rail and turn the key to see which injector drips :yesnod:
