I have a 2004 C5 coupe - manual transmission, with about 72,000 miles. No modifications except the deletion of the skip shift.
A couple days ago I started to have a lot of difficulty getting the car to shift into reverse. It feels almost like there is a barrier that will not allow me to push the gear shift over to the right. I can get into all other gears fine, but really have to lean into it to force it over to reverse.
I had the transmission fluid changed about 5,000 miles ago and have had no issue.
Is there something I can do to remedy this or do I need to get a shop to look at it? Or, will it go away once the weather gets warmer or something? I've never experienced this short of issue before.
It is most likely your reverse lockout solenoid or lack of power to it. I would first check for power at the connector with the key on. If you have power, you have a bad solenoid.
The solenoid is located on the top of the "doghouse" cover on the pass side.

thanks for the input -- checking electrical stuff is probably beyond my ability, but I'll give it a shot -- who knows, I might get lucky (otherwise I'll have to take it to the shop)
