Timing is adjusted constantly by the PCM based on the engine's operating conditions. It is not adjustable unless you have a hand held programmer or some form of tuning software. You can see the amount of timing advance the PCM is calling for with a scan tool with real time data capability but you will not be able to adjust it unless you have one of the tools I previously mentioned.
As far as the amount of advance, I've seen anywhere from 10-14 deg of timing advance under hot idle conditions to in excess of 40 deg advance under light load cruising conditions.
There are over 700 value cells in the high octane spark table, based on MAP value and RPM. Range is from Zero degrees to almost 42 degrees. Idle should be around 10 or 12 and WOT @ redline should be 17 degrees. Spark can be adjusted by the ecm based on knock, intake air temp, coolant temp, etc.
Not like the old days when you set timing at like 12 degrees at idle or something like that. Now it is timing tables. Like a chart. There is one for engine temp, intake air temp, load, throttle position........ and then they all work together. So its not easy to answer "What is the timing?"
Maybe you have your own reason for asking, but be aware that some questions here will get you a lot of flack, especially if the question really is a stupid one.
I was actually curious about this, but only to the point of what would the timing be at idle and then at WOT at redline, that sort if thing. I know that these engines do not have a set "curve" like the Gen I's, but I assume there has to be some sort of base timing guidline, sort of an "I want this timing computer, so give it to me if all parameters are good, but adjust if not". lol ya know
Anyways, good luck with your project and ask anything here, we'll only beat ya up and insult you if we feel it's a stupid question
