There is a switch near the base of the shifter that controls the "brake before shifting out of park" feature. Replace or disconnect it.
I got the car stuck in park several times. Played with shift lever and finally got it out of park. Removed console and bottom of shift boot an found the PARK SOLENOID refusing to disengage no matter that the switch on the brake was operating fine. Was going to remove solenoid entirely. Removed single electrical terminal and the problem was solved.
No need to remove solenoid. Just pull out the single connector and put it aside. I ALWAYS put my foot on the brake so no problem putting the trans in reverse or drive. A $0.00 fix and no future problems. Been like that for about 5 years with no problems.

I'm not sure what the fix would be, you would have to trouble shoot it. My point was that simply disconnecting a malfunctioning electrical part is not fixing it. But hey.....it works! Depending on the price of the part I might do the same thing.

Agreed... its like removing the check engine light bulb from the dash to fix a check engine light related issue.

It will work but it is not fixed.
The SOLENOID is DEFECTIVE. It serves no real purpose other than costing a fortune to replace especially at a dealership. Why put in another one which is of the same quality and suffer the same problem many miles from home. I was lucky mine failed in my garage and didn't require a costly tow. If you step on the brake when starting the car and keep your foot on the brake not having a killer part involved is not a problem. Millions of cars with automatic transmissions were produced without park lock solenoids and I don't see any plethora of people being run over or cars being damaged when shifting out of park.
BTW I disabled my turbonator also as it was slugging the 93 octane fuel and reducing it down ro 23.5 octane. TIC
