Just had the Transgo shift kit installed...
Well after the loose converter, the shifts were a little "sloppy" and soft so I finally got my Transgo shift kit installed today. I just got my car back and have not really had a chance to run it through all the gears but from driving it for a few minutes I can really feel a difference. The shifts are now firm and sure, both when driving normally and at WOT.
There is a little "jerk" on the 1-2 shift, but it is not bad at all, I am already used to that.
I went with 2 spacers, the transmission shop said I could take it back to put in 3 spacers if I wanted it to shift even firmer but I am happy with 2. There would be too much of a "jerk" in everyday driving with 3 spacers I think.
One problem though, Steve at the shop said my tranny was starting to come apart just like Vince's was. This means I will probably have to get it rebuilt sometime down the road. I am not happy with this news as I have never been hard on the transmission. I have not even been to the track yet.
I have 38,000 miles now, but most of it easy driving and always leaving it in OD or 3rd gear. Maybe the high stall converter has something to do with it???
Re: Just had the Transgo shift kit installed... (2000^C5)
Yes I believe your TC has something to do with your trannie beginning to break down. The Yank you have heats up a lot more than the stock converter and trannies just don't stand up to heat. You probably would have had to replace or rebuild your trannie already if not for the fact that you have gone easy on it all this time.
This is one of the reasons I have chosen to stick with the stock converter even though I just changed the gears to 3.42's. I still get a lot of kick at all rpm's with minimal tire spin on the stock run flats.

Yeah, ToplessTexan is right. It only changed the firmness of the shifts, nothing else.
You will have to ask whoever is reprogramming your PCM about the downshifting.

Re: Just had the Transgo shift kit installed... (Buckmaster)
Yeah, I will have to decide if I want to get it rebuilt with all the best parts like Vince did or do a FLP tranny like Sully did.
I will need something that can handle a Stage 2 heads/cm that I don't have to worry about again.
Re: Just had the Transgo shift kit installed... (2000^C5)
I think it would be safe to count on an 01/02 LS1-Edit in early June.
Buckmaster, have you talked to Nick about the workaround, using an '00 flash in your PCM? I would usually recommend patience instead (it's so close now) but it may make sense in your case.
I am hoping my tranny lasts a little longer yet. I figured H&C would kill it. I guess I should stick to my plan of working from the back of the car forward.
Re: Just had the Transgo shift kit installed... (Buckmaster)
I agree. The tranny thing is a shocker in some ways....definitely never want to spend big bucks on a new tranny :( :mad Drive it till it quits....
Just don't trash the converter while you're at it.
I think there are a couple of cheaper alternatives to the FLP unit now, but FLP has an excellent track record for those looking for a fire and forget solution.
Re: Just had the Transgo shift kit installed... (Buckmaster)
I am talking to Nick tomorrow and this is one thing I am bringing up to him. I am curius as to how that affects my car being a 2001 though? Does it affect the AH since it is a Generation II AH? Things like that I'm worried about!
There are separate modules (processors) for that. The big thing is the interface spec for the PCM. I know this has been done, it would be worth locating a C5 that has gone this route and speaking with them directly.
Re: Just had the Transgo shift kit installed... (2000^C5)
Do you know how much an FLP is installed? Or maybe I don't want to know. :cry
I think the FLP tranny itself is like $2k or so, I assume that's exchange, Yank's is like $1850. You probably already have an idea of R&R labor costs from your gears and converter swap. Nitrovette might chime in here...
This is one of those bummer mods that will suck since it won't go any faster, sound any better, or look any cooler. :cry
Re: Just had the Transgo shift kit installed... (2000^C5)
FWIW..After seeing the insides of my transmission, it's a given that the C5 4L60E CAN NOT deal with the stress and heat of after market converters. The fact they will toast is an absolute given..plan on it!! I just hope you all don't get stuck driving a distance in 2nd like I did...bummer :yesnod:
Doug.... You will love the Transgo..give it a few days to get used to. If Steve says the trans is going......it's going.. and all of a sudden ...it's toast!!The Transgo kit will actually extend the life of the transmission with the quick shifts. I wish I had installed the kit a long time ago. It's a great mod!!
I have every confidence in Ed Wright just from the few conversations we have had...a real professional( not like some vendors) very refreshing! Mike Norris does not have nor will he have LS1 Edit any time soon. He tells me it's an expensive toola and he just can't make that kind if investment at this time. i trust Mike and Ed Wright and their expertise...I'm not concerned at all.

Re: Just had the Transgo shift kit installed... (vstella)
Vince,
thanks for the info.
What made you decides to go with an upgraded stock tranny instead of an FLP tranny like some others have gone with....did you find out the price and performance comparisons of the two options I will have?
