Ok, this battery lasted almost 2 months............
Advance Auto Parts Silver series battery. $89.99
I bought the first in December of 09. That one lasted until October of 10. I returned it in October and they replaced it. So this morning I went out to crank my car, it turned over about twice and click....click....click..... The second one didn't even but 60 days.
I don't think I have a battery draw. I am blaming cheap batteries. But if I may have a draw, where would be a good place to start looking for a common draw?
Oh, let me add that I haven't driven the car since I put the new battery in. I've cranked it twice....once to back it out of the shop to get Christmas decorations out of the shop, then last week I cranked it to move it to put the decorations back. It cranked great both times.
When you buy most new batteries they're not fully charged. With a small drain a few months could discharge it.
Johnson Controls which is a maker of many if not most name brand batteries makes Advanced batteries. The case is exactly the same as the A/C Delco batteries that we install at the General Motors plant where I work.

I took it back. They tested it. It showed 63 cold cranking amps. It is a 700 CCA battery. They charged it for 30 minutes, it showed 624 CCA after the charge. I decided just to exchange for an Optima Red Top.
Had a Sams 78N last about 9 months. They replaced it free. That was 5 years ago. Worked for IBM and replaced many parts. New means NEW not GOOD. New defective means just that. Sometimes a new part is DOA sometimes it lasts weeks or months.

With a red top, if you don't keep it on a trickle charger/maintainer, you will soon have another dead battery.

Exactly right.
Also, a drained battery is not the same as a bad battery.
It is unusual for a battery to fail. Problem is that somehow it got drained. That means you have to charge it.
I have 4 cars and once every few months I have to put one on the charger because I left something on. But I have never, ever had a battery go bad unless it was at least 5 years old.
About 8 years ago Consumer Reports rated the Costco batteries as top. In more recent tests Consumer reports has rated Costco batteries well, but not top. So I know they are good and have always purchased from them due to price.

Cost Kirkland batteries (for about $60) represent the best bang for the buck. There is no need to spend $150+ for a battery anymore.
