I'm doing my homework on LS1 heads and cam removal and installation before I start tearing into my '00 C5. Adding new cam, heads, LS6 intake, long tube headers, etc. So if any of you fine ladies and/or gentlemen have helpful information on this thread subject or can point in a good direction, please post it up. All helpful advice and comments are appreciated.
Be very careful using the information on that web site. Many short cuts and inaccurate information has led more then one to major issues especially with the harmonic damper where many have buggered up their crank threads. Get the GM service manual to ensure proper methods and tools are used.

I'll definitely use GM and/or manufacturers torque spec recommendations.
Make sure that the head bolt holes in the block do not have any coolant in them. I used the shop vac with an adapter made from a piece of hose and some metal tubing to clean out them out.

Thanks. Yeah you're not too far from Mendota. Have you ever heard of this place? Many know Mendota as a mental institution near Madison, WI. LoL. Not many Vettes around here, I'm 1 of 2 or 3 C5's in my town that I know of. Anyways, a buddy of mine (has a 700hp '97 Supra) and I cruise up in your neck of the woods from time to time for car meets and such during nice weather.

OH Quit !! The instructions are very clear of possible thread damage and even expalin how to use a longer bolt to avoid damage- Anyone who doesn't use tools properly or use patience or common sense can damage anything --
The instructions include 60 full screen photos 10 pages of instructions
--a list of parts needed--a list of tools needed--If GM parts are used they include the GM part #'s---All the photos are very clear--focused well-- and show parts precisely-Instructions are easy to read
As to DBS99 there is a whole section on the importance of head bolt hole cleaning and even shows how to make your own cleaning tool--
IF there are better instructions out there I'd like to see them--please share !!

Do a search, lets start with damaged crank threads. Using a longer bolt is not the way to install the HB. If you want to do it to your car, that's your choice but I won't recommend using that site after watching years of guys with the problems that result from using it. Inadequate tightening of the HB when you re-install is another bad recommendation. While there may be a few tips on the site and the photos are good for someone taking a C5 apart for the first time, short cuts abound throughout the procedures.
The Yella Terra write-up is flat out incorrect as well.
Better instructions? Ever hear of the GM Service Manual?

Yeah I have heard of Mendota before and not near Madison either lol.
The LS1.com are quite good imo, particularly if it is your first go round. The instructions were a great help to me. By all means, have a set of manuals for more in-depth info, especially for reassembly. And regarding the reinstall of HB, there have been numerous post on home made install tools that are probably better than just using a longer bolt (M16x200mm) but basically if you get enough thread bite you are good to go.

I don't agree at all and this is not a good recommendation to someone who is planning this task for the first time. Do a search, if I had a nickel for everyone who has used this method and screwed up the crank threads I could retire. Make sure to check other Corvette sites, f-body sites, GTO sites, truck sites, etc.
