Replacing lower steering column bearing
I was about to change the steering position sensor and it wasn't as easy as I expected.. First I had to order a proper sensor, whih of course was $230 to this '99 model and would have been only $70 if it was younger one. Then I had to manouver the column out of the car with that telescoping system, it was a PITA.
Then I had a bunch of broken plastic parts in my hand. The sensor seems to be ok but everything else there is broken. Here are pics of my foundings:

I ordered all the parts I see goes in there by the GM EPC but Service manual instructions are very light.. They just say take old parts off and put new parts in.
While waiting for new parts, should I remove the retainer which shows on first pic? The one holding the bearing with many teeths around the aluminium shaft. That won't come off unless I break it..
Any other things to take into consideration while doing this?
