Default CCA Catch Can Owners

Hi,

I'm mounting a catch can like the ones sold by CCA. I was wondering where folks are mounting the can bracket. It looks like from pictures there are two locations. One location puts the can near the Oil fill neck and cap and another location puts it near the dipstick.

I'm asking because I currently have it near the oil cap but am having clearance issues with the fuel rail cover.

if I put it in the head bolt near the dipstick, it looks like it will be impossible to drain without removing.

Would appreciate any feedback from owners.

thanks,

Rick

Thanks for the response. This is what I found to be the case also. When I mount to a higher head bolt, I have adequate room to drain but it's very tight with the FRC. Frankly, I wish the can was shorter.

I don't have a CCA catch can, but my first catch can had an inline petcock. It was a custom can and had a filter on top, I couldn't get rid of the fumes. I plan on modding a new catch can with a new fitting on the bottom and route a hose with an inline petcock for draining to the bottom of the engine. So when I change my oil, I will drain the can at the same time. I'm going to use tie wraps for hose management for routing to the bottom of the frame. It sure beats taking the can completely off and then doing the petcock. Amazing that one of the catch can folks haven't done this as of yet. BTW, it is a close fit on your water pump hoses. I'm guessing I will use a low profile 90* fitting and 3/8" hosing with an inline petcock somewhere on the passenger side where it's easy to get to. My car is in the shop, I'll be looking at mine today at VR. I'll let you know after I look at mine and do the mod. Here's a good link for petcocks . . . http://www.golanproducts.com/fuel_valves.html Maybe you can modify yours using the same type or similar method.

The "can" is held by a bracket. The "can", can be adjusted an inch or two higher to allow more room to empty.

Hey Long horn

I have the same can, 03Z

Here is what i did.
Don't fully tighten set screw, to where you can slide the can up & down.
Use the hole at the front of the head to mount brack.

Do this. Remove your can& take the bottom pet **** out(drain)
Put teflon tape on all threaded areas. Mine had a leak for several months, before I did this to eliminate the ugly oil leaks.
Another tip is to write down on the instructions so you will know to turn the pet **** c/clockwise to drain, when looking down at it from the top.

Place two wraps of electrical tape completly around the lower section of can, to where it's not bottomed out any more in the bracket.
The top of the can will now be setting about 4" above the top of the bracket & there will be about 2-3" below the bracket.

I have the the stock Z FRC & have had my can like this for around 4 years with no problems.
By doing this, along with leaving the set screw untightened will alow you to empty the can into another container quite easily.

Good luck.

I have a CCA & I drain it by putting a small sandwich bag around the can , loosen the petcock & let it drain into the bag, you can turn the petcock inside the bag so you don`t loose any oil. then retighten & remove bag & dispose.

Thanks appreciate this write up. I agree its probably a good idea not to tighten the setting screw too tight.

Well, I moved it to the spot and put the location around where Bumble Z did. It does fit ok and I can either remove the can to empty or use a zip lock bag.

Thanks for the tips all. I need to take her for a spin
