I have all my parts for my 383 build, but am still waiting on a convenient time that works for a friend of mine so we can start the removal of my drive train in my car using his shop and lift.. I have an opportunity to trade blocks with my tuner to get my build going using a block out of an 02 Camaro. Once we get my engine pulled, I would just give him my block out of my 02 ZO6..
Is there any differences with the LS1 block that is in a Camaro SS versus the LS6 block or engine that is in my Vette? We thought this could give me a head start and possibly give me the opportunity to get my short block done now instead of waiting and doing it all at once..
Anything I should look out for, or different between them? I really do not care if the block in my car is not what it came with as it is not a muscle car or one where I could care if the numbers matched or not..
These are the differences between an LS1 block and an LS6 block:
The LS6 shares its basic block architecture with the LS1, but other changes were made to the design such as windows cast into the block between cylinders, improved main web strength and bay to bay breathing and a revised oiling system better suited to high lateral acceleration.
I wouldn't trade just to save a little time. I don't have any reservations about original engine or not but putting in the LS1 is actually cobbing up the car and future buyers will not be getting what they think they are getting.
You bring up a couple good points, Bill. I do not plan on selling the car anytime soon or in the future (although things can change) but if I did, I would disclose this and it may or may not deter the buyer from it.. Time it could save me could be a few (3-6) weeks, so I just was kicking around this as an option that presented itself.
