***HELP*** Overheated Optima!
The last few times that I went to start the Vette the battery was dead. I just figured that it was because I hadn't driven the car much over the winter. I put the battery on charge with a 2 amp trickle charger for several hours every week or so during the time it was stored. Today the weather is great so I go for a nice long ride. I started smelling something that smelled like battery acid so I pull into a parking lot and pop the hood. The Optima red top is hot to the touch, so I beat feet home and open the hood again. The Optima is hot to the touch and I can hear it actually sizzling thru the vents. The digital readout on the DIC read between 13.6 and 14.1 the whole time. Any suggestions? Has anyone else had this happen?

Update.....called Optima customer service they said to take it back to the place where I bought it, there is a 24 month free replacement plan, I bought the battery in Aug. '00. They said that it sounds like something internal. Called the store, they will have a replacement in tomorrow, I'm going to NY so I'll pick it up next week. Hope it works but it kind of concerns me because if I hadn't smelled it, the battery might have started a fire.
