I went by Autozone today since they are one of the only place to get one of these filters around here. This place definetely don't sell many of these since this is out in the country. I am just wondering how long they have been sitting on the shelf. Should I worry about when they were manufactured. This is like a series of numbers on top, is that the manufactured date. If it is, I am in trouble...
I'm not sure whether or not it's the date, what are the #s? Also, why dont you just order some from the lapd, they have them real cheap and his shipping time is amazing :chevy
I would think a place like AZ would go through filters pretty fast, so that would minimize shelf time. I agree with the above, I just ordered a case of AC Delco Ultraguards from LAPD and they Fed Ex'd them to me. Got them over the weekend. If you can wait a few days, that's the best way to go.
Nah, I wanted to get the oil changed before the weekend so I can had to go that route. So does anybody knows what the numbers on top mean. I guess I will have to call the Mobil number today and see if they can tell me..
I don't worry about the shelf life of my filters, the ones I get off the shelf are usually dusty, and I keep a stock of one or 2 at home, which means at the rate the car gets driven, a filter can sit on my shelf at home for a year or 2 before use. As long as they're kept out of temp extremes and corrosive atmosphere, they're fine.
I contacted Champion today who makes the Mobil 1 oil filters and the number on the top of the filter is indeed the manufactured date. So the one i bought was made in Nov of 1997...WTF....Oh, well..it gets installed tomorrow..
If you don't want to spend the money for M1 filters at your local parts store, get the K&N filter. It is the exact same filter, number and all, and there is a nut welded on the bottom for easy removal
What I do is wait until I need to buy a few other things from http://www.jegs.com and I order like 5 oil filters at the same time to save on shipping.
