A lot of people dislike aluminum intakes like weiand and bbk because of heat soak..
They are cheaper though and no2 guys like them incase of a big backfire..
$350 isnt real low. there is a ls1tech sponsor that sells bbk for 400 new weiand is a little more..
on ls1tech there is also a dyno comparison that showed a bbk had a few HP over the ls6
I bought a brand new BBK intake for under $400 last fall.
They do not heat soak. Please research the phenomena. Don't just take the advice of individuals that haven't even used aluminum intakes. My intake has never been too hot to touch after long hard trips, the fuel rail is ALWAYS cold after a drive, and I personally have never noticed any negative effects since installing the aluminum intake. In short, heat-soak is primarily an issue with carburetor equipped engines.
If you have an LS6 intake already, the only real difference you will notice is the appearance under the hood. I had an LS6 intake and only changed to BBK because I want my engine to look like an engine.
If you have an LS1 intake, either intake you go with may get you about 5-10hp on the top end, which probably won't be noticed by SOTP.
Let us know what you do.
Oh, here's a couple pics (not the greatest angles though)
With GM's track record w/ composite intakes-I think I would trust an Aluminum intake more. GM even went back to Aluminum on some engines (like the 3800) after many problems with the composite ones leaking.
okay i was just trying to get an idea if 350$ was a good deal or not. ill shop around but i really like the polished look as far as intake goes! anybody now where i can find a good intake at used possibly for a good deal? or maybe even new for under 4 or 5
