stock LS1 heads really dont flow very much above a 550 cam lift.

So going with ported 243 heads and cam would help

Find/buy a set of 243 castings (LS6 or LS2) . Great platform to build from and low cost.

Worked 241 heads flow great. Worked 243 heads flow better. Both drop off after .600 lift.

It's all about your budget. Back in the day people would build LS 427s with 241 heads.

You will need a cam that works with what ever heads you decide to go with.

I have a set of 241 heads for sale if you're interested. Stock.

Good luck with your goals.

I put on a set of p&p 5.3 heads and made 400+ through an A4. I just posted in general last night if you want the info.

going heads only is not the most cost effective method for power. decent worked heads will be $500+ and you need to tune.
my brother made about 410hp to the wheels on is 98 ls1 Camaro with a cam, stock 241 heads with new springs about $350, and tune.

im sure that a head swap is not the best way to gain more power but i think heads would be a lot easier than a cam swap. ive never tried a cam on a pre assembled motor. i guess im just scared to mess it up . would it be something anyone could do when heads are changed?

Less posting, more reading. Check ls1howto.com to get an idea of what's involved in either a cam-only swap or a head swap...cam is much easier than heads.
