Hello fellow corvette members. I have a question about a 97 a4 2.73 differential. Of course I have the 2.73 differential. I want a 3.90 differential. I was wondering is it possible to just swap out the gears or will it be cheaper to just go on ahead and buy a 3.90 differential? Thanks
there was someone on the forum that could modify the diff to accept different gears, but by the time you pull yours out ship to them ,get it back and reinstall, you're probably better off such putting in a new diff. That's what I did.
Doing yourself something is great feeling than writing check, however in this case buy 3-rib case and go with 4.10 or 3.90. But again contact rpm transmissions they sell a adapter that will accept 3.xx gears in a 2.73 carrier.
You can send your 2-rib carrier to RPM transmission, and they will swap out to whatever gears you want (i.e. 3:42's, 3:73's, 3:90's or 4:10's). I would have them also do the hardened shafts as well, if you have them do the swap. I went from 2:73's to 3:73's with a Vig 3400 stall...night and day difference. RPM did all my drivetrain work.
