Driving home yesterday, a pickup truck dropped a good sized rock off it and i had no choice but to run over it with traffic on both sides of me, didnt think much of it besides man i hope everythings ok... Woke up this morning to a big ol puddle of oil under my baby. got it up in the air and theres a small dent and oil dripping out of the peak in the dent on my pan. Granted its only a drip, do i need to replace the pan? Can i have it fixed with a small weld? What do i do?
Sorry no pics, i only had time to drain the oil out of it and take the truck to work. 2003 Convertible.
I'd try a weld 1st (disconnect the battery BEFORE YOU DO), R&R'ing the pan is a little involved. I've had great luck with the putty used for gas tank leaks.
the JB weld Water weld? will it really hold up to the heat and pressure? i planned on removing the pan from the car before trying to repair it... i can remove it easy right?
I think you have to drop the front cradle to get the pan out-do a search to be sure. I've used some gas tank repair stuff I got at Napa to fix a tank once, held great.
from what i gather from that post i can just slide it right off... i only need to remove the very lower winged portion... thanks for the link. any other input is greatly appreciated!!!!

Yes, no need to drop the cradle or even exhaust. The lower batwing pan comes right off...just remember to drain the fluid first.
Just remove the pan and find a good TIG welder if it's not bad. Otherwise, check the forums for a batwing pan. A number of guys who go with other engines have their take-offs to sell for <$100. It might be worth the peace of mind just to find one used rather than patch what you have. Just make sure you don't lose the gasket when you take the current one off.
i just saw your photos! DAAAAAANNNG! thats a crappy day, and kinda what my garage floor looked like this morning. i went to the local welder, guy did a beautiful job! welded it inside and out! bead is real smooth and even. im a happy camper!
I'd probably just drop the bottom off and replace it.
But first I'd call my insurance company too see how my coverage worked in the situation. I have 100 deductable but 0 on comprehensive so... I don't know how it would pay in that case.

Same thing happened to me... ins. co. paid for the pan replacement and also some rock damage to the car. Fixed it myself w' a used part and pocketed the difference. Easy fix, if it's just he lower pan.
