Default Help rear differential columbus ohio

When I bought my C5 last year it had a small leak in the rear cover dealer said we will fix it, they did 2 weeks later it was wining like a **** and it has gotten worse I think they FU*k it up but they won’t fix it for less the 3k which is crazy Thanks Jack Maxton Chevrolet.

Does anyone know a competent person in Columbus Ohio that could rebuild my diff? Dose not have to be a “shop” could be you in your garage. I have a 2.73 and want to upgrade to a 3.42 maybe with C6 internals.

Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks for looking.

Thank you for the input but I am really not looking for a professional shop I would like a local corvette enthusiast like myself who has rebuilt these diff’s in the past and can help me rebuild mine or do it from me for a few hundred bucks. If I were to have a pro shop do it, it would be DTE in Fort Wayne IN about 2 hrs away. Sorry for not being clear in my original post.

vsocks1 is right on the money, by suggesting RPM. in IND

You want to have fun with local forum members in your area? Pull the diff out, send it to RPM. Then, you & friends put the replacement back in.
Not that big of a job for one person to do, even for the very first time attempting.
Ask me how I know.
Good luck.

If you cant bullet proof a C5 rear with the info in these two post, you better just go get a turn key unit..

- C5, Its Go Time, Output Shaft Install - Left and Right : http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-t...post1573404441

- C5 RAGTOPWS6, Differential UP-Grade; http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-g...-z06-guts.html

These post are what lead me to thinking of rebuilding the thing myself. I just dont want to drop the coin on the Kent Moore tool J42168 kit I was hoping I could find someone local who has it and would like to share.

With these diffs I cant be the only one here in Columbus Ohio who has this issue maybe we can do a group build up and get a discount on parts etc not a bad Idea.

I wish you all the luck in the world!
If you become an accomplished C/5, C/6 differential rebuilder, you'll have owners coming from miles around to have you do theirs.
You'll be an instant millionary

My precious WIFE found the Kent Moore too on E Bay for $40. Look there for an inexpensive one.
That said,,, even having the tool, doesn't make you a C5/C6 rear end pro. You have to first master the tool. Then have the dial indicators, know how to read and interpret them and "have the proper bearing race shims to set up the whole thing and a press to get the bearing races out with out destroying them or tap them out very carefully. The rest is easy!

If you read the two articles, you will find a couple of statements referring to having to assemble and disassemble the rear numerous times to get the clearances spot on. Other wise, you will have a pile of junk.

I'll stick for the easy stuff till I find a rear I can experiment with.

Hey, get the tool and give it hell! You can always contact RAGTOPWS6 for pointers. Hes a hell of a guy and most likely give you any info and pointers that you need to get the job done.
