Speed-specific howling 36-48mph
My car is howling. It seems to be coming from the left rear. (Or at least, from the B-pillar.)
This happens between 36-48mph. It doesn't change in pitch, volume, or intensity.
It happens regardless of gear (Third, fourth, fifth, neutral...)
It happens if I'm coasting, braking, accelerating or going around a curve.
This developed rather suddenly. I can hear it very easily too, despite having tons and tons of sound deadening. So I'm assuming it's actually really, really loud.
The only thing I've touched in the area is lubricating the spindles. When I pulled the spindle nuts off, rusty water came out. I thought that was kind of strange. This problem started some time after this - probably within 100 miles of it.
(I didn't have to fight the spindles, they moved freely as is.)
I've rechecked the torque on the nuts a few times (Set to 118ft-lbs.)
I've also checked the wheel bearings in the typical way - by spinning the wheels and checking for play. But I know from experience with other cars that sometimes a wheel bearing can pass both of those tests and still be trash.
