I'm cruisin down the parkway this AM, stop and go, when I get a
"service traction system" warning. Then, I get a "reduced engine
power" warning and all I can do is coast off the road. I turned off
the car, started it back up, runs fine, but now I have a check engine
light on.
So, first I need to know what's going on.
Second, can I continue to drive before I bring it in for service?
Third, should I remove my Blackwing and put the original cleaner
back in before I go to the dealer?
This is how to clear all codes. 1)Turn ignition on but do not crank vehicle door close. 2)press option button with thumb/at
the same take your index finger and press the fuel button 4 times quickly (it goes: press then tap tap tap tap!)
3)The car will beging to run a self check and you will see Diagnosis on your DIC. Each parameter will show up
for example, 10 pcm no codes or 10 pcm (p0172) or whatever the problem is. 4)Once vehicle is done, it will go to
the Manual Mode. This is where you clear all your codes. 5)press reset until code is cleared..it reads 10 pcm no codes
6)press option to skip to the next parameter if a code is present/follow step 5. Once you have
reached the end, 7) press the metric button and done!!!. At any point you do not get it right at the beginning, turn key
off and start over. It seems a little confusing but trust me, it's nothing to it. If you have any problems, call me at home
(972) 359-6061 std time and I'll walk you throught it. Hope this helps!!!

I've been there. The check engine light indicates that you have an emissions problem. It can be caused by something as simple as poor quality gasoline or even a loose gas cap. There is a sensor by the gas cap that will trigger the light if it senses fumes. I took off my cap and put it on, started the car and it was all fine. never had the problem repeat. Went through the same exact thing as you, in the same order.
to answer your other question.. No it will not hide a real problem.. if you have a hard failure.. the code will come right back if it was infact a hard failure ( a real Problem ) even after you clear the codes..
