OK- here's the deal...I had Midas install my Stingers and when I took the car home, I noticed the right tip was approx 1 1/2 inches above the left tip. So I went back the next day to have them fix it. The mechanic put the car on a lift and then proceeded to take a large long pipe ( i guess it was a pipe to fit in a jack) to maneuver the right pipe down a little and the left pipe up a little. When he did this he bent the left sides inside ring (you know the stingers have a tip and then a ring within the tip) very slightly at the top. You can only see it if you are looking at the tips either straight on or kneel down and look up a little. What should I do? Am I being extremely ****? It just keeps bugging me that a brand new mod is damaged slightly upon install. By the way, It's been on the car for a week or two now. I am probably going to do nothing but I guess it makes me feel better to vent.
edit...is there a way to fix that inside ring (maybe using a clamp or something to bend it back in place)? Thx
Hearing this aboubt Midas is the very reason why I wrench all my own cars! That would tick me off to no end. Perhaps you could take up the situation with the manager of the shop, they should be able to fix a small cosmetic thing like this.
By the way, how do you like the system? Does it resonate? Any popping? Did you just install the cat-back or do additional exhaust mods? I'm still playing with a "stock" C5 and would like an exhaust system to be my FIRST of MANY mods.
Any insights (even sound files) would be much appreciated!
Sorry to hear that :troll worked on your car. Needless to say this is not the proper way to adjust the Borla system. I hope it is not too noticable and you can live with it.
It’s not a problem, it is a disaster IMHO. Sorry about your misfortune with your install because this is what I think of it and the formula for them>>> Midas + exhaust mechanic = Idiot! Let them pay for new ones!
Re: Problem with Stinger install... (Smoke-N-Shot)
If you are going to say something say it now. It has been a week so they can say you did it or hit something. I would have cringed when I saw the "mechanic" using a big pipe on my car. Be glad that is the only thing he damaged. On the flip side nothing stays new forever but either way sorry to hear about this. :mad
Man...its hard to believe they would do that to adust it. I think the proper way is to loosen the clamp, move it and retighten. Luckly, our local Midas is owned by a fellow C5 owner (had a 99FRC and 01Z06 last I spoke with him) who took special care on my B&B install... have a Borla Stinger on order.
dads01dream- I LOVE the stingers! :yesnod: My system resonates at 2600 rpm and 3200 rpm ONLY when the car is cold. As soon as my oil temp warms up the resonance is gone. I did notice, though, that in 6th gear cruising between 75 and 90 there is a drone. Ya got to understand- these flaws I am telling you about are really not a factor at all. These are just some things I have noticed. I would 100% do this mod again and definitely recommend it to anyone that has a stock exhaust. I do have popping on deceleration, but I like it. If you want to get rid of the popping, you need to add an X-pipe. The X-pipe also gives you a little more torque. I would love to post a sound file except I don't know how to get it (sound file) from my digital camcorder to my computer. I think I need a fire wire or something- I have a small Sony digital camcorder that I can post pictures from- there is a contraption connected to my computer that I put the memory stick into. If anyones got some insight on how to post sound clips - I'll do it. Hope this info helps.
Thanks for your honest appraisal of the system! It's not that I'm completely turned off by resonance, so long as it's not booming all the time. On my old 5.0 Mustang the resonance would start around 1500 and on till 2000 rpms. I HATED THAT!
And certainly a Vette is far more car than a Mustang... I don't really want to have such an annoying situation on a car like this, know whatta mean Vern?? :)
I too have the Sony digital camcorder, never downloaded anything to a computer. Maybe the instruction manual has some quick and easy steps to follow? I'd love to hear the system if you can upload the file.
Installed my own also. That was the lazy way to fix that problem all they had to do was loosen one bolt and turn it up or down to match. I would be :mad did you let him know that a monkey could have fixed it that way. :cuss
