I am new at this, so please be patient with me. I have seen many threads that dealt with fog lights and upgrading. When I purchased my 97 vette, I had some front end damage that I could not see from the outside. Well, I have the headlights removed from the car and I am replacing the broken turn signals and I decided to install factory fog lights while I still had it apart. So, I bought the factory fog lights and the factory fog light, trunk switch, but I realize that there is no wiring harness. From reading the threads I have discovered that many have made their own. I not very technical and so I been looking on ebay for a complete wiring harness. Someone from the corvette forum makes the just the wiring harness for fog lights and was selling it on ebay. It also said their was instructions included. I did not have the fog lights at the time so I did not purchase the item. Well, now I have the fog lights and the switch. I went back to ebay to see if the item was still for sale. Of course it was not. Does anyone know who that person is? I would like to see if he still is making that harness and purchase it.
Thanks for the help.
You do realize that the original factory harness goes through the "body computer module" (I forget what it is called, BCM ?). The computer checks to see that parking lights are on and high beams are off before turning on the foglights.
I would imagine that most after-market harnesses use high ampere 12 volt wiring and don't go through the computer.
I am not sure that the stock foglight switch can take that much current? It would be safer to use a relay actuated by the foglight switch.

Thanks for the input, I am planning on going through the relay for the switch on the fuse box. If I remember correctly it is relay 39 and it is purple.

I can help you, made then for quite a while then got a C6 and kinda dropped out . Not on here as often lately..
The BCM is preprogrammed for foglights. It also has the fuse box relay and wiring to the dash switch location but not the fog light dash switch. The fuse box is not wired to provide output for the actual light wiring unless you had OEM foglights.
Many people do the WRONG thing by powering retrofitted foglights from the purple coil wire from the relay which is WRONG and overloads the circuit. That wire is too small to power both lights. It would be OK to use that wire/circuit to drive a separate relay coil and power the lights from a different 12V source. On top of that many people put in bigger lights and upgraded the fuse from 10 amp to 20 amp. Can you spell FIRE?
Does anyone know if a C5 comes without fog lights is the wires with plugs there from factory just in case you want to add the fog lights? also where would the wire for the fog light switch be hiding at under the dash?

^^^^^^
I'd also like to know this. Can anyone answer, please?
Also: could generic fog lights be added and wired into the DLR:wiring so they are on all the time as running lights?
These would be LED/COB Angel Eye type fog/running lights, 20W/pair.

You would need to replace the trunk release switch with a combo switch that does both functions, release trunk and fog lights. The connector that plugs into the switch is the same for both kind of switches and it already has the fog light wires.
All the wiring is already in place except the harness from the fuse box to the fog lights. Take a look at this detailed step-by-step procedure. It has all the necessary info you would need, including pictures and electric schematic.
The following quotation from the above mentioned procedure adds some 1st hand details:
GM did not bother to change the electrical harness/relays to take out the fog lamp equipment on the Z06's. Good for us that wanted to add the OEM C5 fog lamps after the fact! GM did not run wiring from the fuse box to the fog lamps though.
The above bottom quote mentions the ZO6 - what about the base models?
True. I should have said that the info I was providing was accurate for Z06 models.
If yours is not a Z06 you can still follow the step-by-step procedure I linked above and determine to what degree things are similar. Please, let us know

There's a simple thing you can do that can probably give us a better perspective. Just pry out the trunk release switch and check if the connector plugged into it has the wires for the fog lights in place (purple, yellow, orange/black). If it does, chances are that the car has the same kind of fog lights prewiring than a Z06.
ALL C5's have wiring from the trunk switch to the under-hood fuse box. Assuming your car originally came with fog lights and they have been removed, you should still have the trunk/fog switch in the cabin. If that's true, all you'll need to do is have a simple output harness from fuse #6 location to your fog lights.
1998 C5. Trying to have the fog lights available without regard to the high/low beams.. I'd like to use them with high and low beams... Any way to do this?
I thought I might rewire the fog light switch to activate a new relay and wire that new relay to the fogs, but I don't think the switch works that way. I suspect it isn't really on/off 12v but a signal to the BCM instead. Anyone know?
