Hey guys, I've done a search and haven't come across what I'm looking for so wanted to post a thread. I am looking for a set of heavier duty shocks to fit the rear hatch of my C5 coupe. Due to some mods. the hatch is now heavier and the stock shocks simply don't hold it up. Does anyone know of a good site to buy something like this? I can find OEM replacements but I can't seem to find any type of spec to compare with. Any advice is appreciated, thanks.
The hatch was reinforced to support the addtion of a racing wing. As a result of the additions the stock shots won't hold up the hatch.
John: Yes, true, I can prop it up, however, I'm requesting this more for car show environments where I might not be around the car all the time to monitor the prop rod. I wouldn't ever want the hatch to slam shut so am trying to look into heavier shocks to support the additional weight.
It's actually only just beyond the capabilities of the shocks because on a warm day with no breeze the hatch "can" actual remain open .. but not for long lol. If anyone knows of a good place to buy some heavier shocks that are compatable with the rear hatch I'd greatly appreciate a heads up. Thanks.
is that a heat extractor hood? do you have a picture of it please?
Yes it is a fully functional extractor hood that is modeled directly from the C5.R (as much as possible). In order to get the full effect it flows air in from the open mouth in the lower bumper and channels it through the hood, directly over the radiator (no more shroud). Of course the air passes over the higher flow intake which is attached directly to the front frame of the car.
The car is in the body shop right now undergoing a re-paint; should be done by Tuesday. I'd be happy to post more detailed pics when I get it back :-)

Reason: link
I just ordered replacement OEM units for mine as they are no longer effective. If you search gas springs you'll find several companies that can make them based on dimensions and the force the you require. You'd likely have to weigh the trunk lid and trunk lid accessories to determine the force you'd require to keep the lid up.
Thanks guys, I'm finding that I may be just as well to clamp the existing shocks in an open position rather than attempt to replace them as I neglected to remember that the rear defroster connects to the shocks on either side. No custom aftermarket replacement is likely to have such a connection; causing me to lose rear defog. capability .. not that I can see through the rear hatch anyway.
Instead I will look for a creative and good looking way to prop or brace it open. Thanks again.
