Hi all. I recently purchased a 2002 c5 coupe. I drove it off the lot and the oil pump blew, so I finally got to RE pick up the car yesterday. Now, there is a real annoying sound when i let the clutch out with relatively no gas in 1st gear. It "SOUNDS" like my license plate scraping across the ground from 600 rpm to 1000. Is this normal, or is there a problem in my exhaust?
2nd. Something in my dash rattles real bad over bumps. Should I get this looked at, or will they just tear the dash apart, and it will end up being WORSE?
Thank you for all your WELL RESPECTED opinions in advance:)
The clutch noise is normal. It has to do with the design of the system. Transmission is behind you. Not in front of you. Watch your Video Tape that came with the car. They explain the Tranny noise
Dash Rattle may be something simple. Check the grill on top of the dash. Sometimes it makes noise. Also check the trim around the center console.
All in all these are Very tight cars. A lemon sneaks out out once in a while. But rare. This Forum will help you weed out the real problems from the annoying ones :seeya
Launch at a little higher rpm and that should help quite the "marbles in a can" sound at take off. You may also sometimes notice a sound when stopped with the clutch out, or when shutting the car off with the clutch out. This is all considered normal and is related to the shaft that is spinning in the tunnel just below the center console.
The rattle in the dash could be as simple as your keychain. I thought I had one, and then noticed that the keychain was just hitting against the plastic on the dash when I hit bumps. Duh!
I've come to the conclusion that these cars are solid, but they don't like traffic. They start to bellyache :U when you drive them in stop and go situations. Take her out on the open road and throw in a few curves to keep her happy.

First and foremost... Welcome to the forum and come back often! I would not be too disappointed with the problems thus far for it is rare that these cars are severely problematic. Let the dealer have the opportunity to fix your concerns and then enjoy the ride!
