I recently replaced my rear shocks for my hatch and those work great. I connected all the tabs back to the shocks and when I used the rear defrost I swore I smelled something burning, but nothing seems to be burnt, yet, but I dont use it for fear of my car burning up. I'm sure everything is snapped securly, but is there a grease or something I need to apply to ensure a secure connection to the defrost? Thanks.
Yeah, I was reading your post and wondered if you ever did find a solution. I can only think to try and make sure everything is firmly connected and to try again. Mine hasnt melted that I know of.
Where can you get a set of those books? Also, what is next after the good ground? I'm guessing the ground would be the struts anyways correct? What type of grease, if any, is needed for the solid ground connection?

maybe from gene, Stealership, ebay or sometimes here
So I went back and double checked all my connections and found one of my plugs melted. I went ahead and stripped off all the melted plastic and cleaned off the connections and made sure it had a tight fit to the shock. Went ahead and turned on the car and then the defrost...all was well...no arcing or sparking. I think when I connected the tab to the shock the metal part of the shock went underneath the sleave that slides around it. Well it works great so I hope this helps someone.
