Lately when I turn the heat on ,it automatically switches to AC.It will be below 40 outside. It does it if I set the temp to 72 or 90.I can not turn the AC off.Ihave to turn the whole thing off. What am I doing wrong and how do I fix this ? I am beginning to hate this car. Also I can not program my key fob to unlock the doors. It will lock them tho.

I hate my HVAC unit. I wish it was manual like my other car. Sometimes my AC turns on for no reason.... Like you said your trying to heat the car... and the AC turns on... WTF ! I have been there before.
I believe if you have followed any of the threads of late, you will have seen this already addressed. It is normal for the AC to run in order to clear the humidity. I wouldn't worry about it unless you have no heat coming out when you want it? You could just hit the mode button and turn off the AC, and not run the AUTO mode if it bothers you that much.
I think if its in "Auto" things will continue to happen on their own. You can try manually controlling it by setting the airflow to the top, bottom or whatever but insure the defrost is off. I use to think the memory settings had something to do with this as well, but someone corrected me reminding me they are supposed to stay at whatever settings you left it when shutting it down....something still nags my memory though with the manual vs auto modes and the memory.
The control settings will be
remembered each time you turn the ignition off
and restart in the same settings. You can use the
memory option to store and recall your settings.
From Memory Section:
Use button “1” to store the settings for the first driver, button
“2” for a second driver or press buttons 1 and 2 at the same
time for a third driver. To store your memory settings:
1. Adjust your settings for the driver’s seat position,
outside rearview mirror positions, comfort control
temperature, fan speed, mode settings and telescopic
steering wheel (if equipped).
Ok, just to clarify, When the system is running, you cannot just push the AC button, and have it go off. It just stays on, regardless of what you do?
Basically.
To lower your frustration level, download or read the chapter in the owner's manual. It has a pretty good explanation as to what it has in mind. Your input is fairly limited. Resistance is futile.
My 2001 with dual climate control does the same thing, even here in the winter.
I put it on 75-80 to get some heat and the AC light goes on. I have read that I/we should just ignore it but I don't like it so I've just found that if I leave it on manual and keep the temp from 74-78, I'm comfortable, at least in the winter like it was for the past few months here in MA.
I have tried to ignore the AC-light and use the AUTO feature but the system does all sorts of weird stuff so I don't bother.
I think a lot of the newer C5 owners are having the same questions on the the why's and how's of the AC. Probably, the C5 owners who have had theirs for a while, are just chuckling. Again, as suggested , read the manual, and go slow when trying to change things on the controls. Its not like the manual ones where you have control. Thats my last 2 cents worth.
