First off, i wanted to thank lucky for helping me with my P0410 code.
Second, I only have one more issue with my newley purchased C5Z.
Some infor on the car:
2002 C5 Z06
13,450 miles
Only mods = KN Intake, lowered.
As the title states when i throw the car into reverse to, say, paralel park, it will interminently "pop out" of reverse and grind the gear. I don't have the issue if I use some force to throw it in and let the clutch out SLLOWWWWLY but I don't think this is normal. I did some searching and found various things that could be wrong with it but most examples where high mileage vehicles.
I swapped the clutch fluid yesterday (it was black with crap in it, swapped 4 cans and it's now clear). The clutch seems smoother and more cooperative now but when i tested reverse about an hour ago it still popped out unless i had my hand on it.
Can the forks be bent/damaged on such a low mileage car?
The shifting fork has a piece of plastic on each of the "legs". It's a common problem for the fork to lose one of the pieces and then when you try to shift into reverse the gear can't be fully engaged. The fork is too thin when the plastic breaks off and there is lot's of slop in the collar it rides in.
BUT!
It could also be sloppy shift linkage from the shifter to the transmission, just pull up the boot and look at the 6mm bolts that hold down the shift plate to see if it's lose.
Other than that I don't have a clue.
I just had a transmission rebuilt cause my reverse kept popping out and I saw the shift fork plastic broken off.
No miles on the car BUT it's still 10+ year of old plastic.
Edited to add I designed gear boxes for Lufkin Industries for awhile(Google it) and I couldn't believe how cheap GM was by using plastic tips on forks..... Lufkin would never stand for that kind of gear box.
edited to add a little bragging about Lufkin building some VERY high speed gear boxes, not many in the world compare to a Lufkin gear box. Our gear boxes can do 60,000RPM's and the teeth of a gear can travel 180miles PER SECOND! http://www.lufkin-france.com/eng/test_bench.html
Mine will do the sae thing sometimes. I have foundd that if I shift from 6 to rev it is better. I think it is a flaw in the transmission linkage. I can tell by the feel when itis going to do it and I then just shift into 6 and back to reverse and its ok.

I couldn't have said it any better. To the OP, the shift fork rarely bends, I have seem them break through.
Just wondering where do the broken pieces go this might bbe my problem, but wouldn't broken pieces damage other parts?
That is just luck of the draw. I have seen a case with a hole in it because one of the failed bearing got jammed between the gear and the case and the case lost. Most of the time, it just sits on the bottom of the transmission or captured by the magnets.
