Default Another successful cam install complete!

just finished up the car an hour ago, it fired right up! and boy is it loud. its just plain mean sounding! i burped the coolant out and let her idle for 20 minutes till the t stat opened and it got up to temp.

put the hood back on it, took her off the jack stands and went for a drive, its pretty mild mannered for a larger cam, I was suprised! it hates to come down to idle though from higher rpm, wants to stall but doesnt. just barely. its gonna get tuned next week after some miles.

ill tell you what, its a hell of a project to take on, but the feeling of completing it is awesome. now i have a tornado struck garage to clean up!

i have a quicktime video i took with my cell but it doesnt work for some reason! ill take one with the digital maybe in the morning. im exhausted right now however.

thanks for those who pointed me in the right direction along the way, it was a real confidence booster!

for those that dont know, i went with the Texas Speed torquer V.2
232/234 .595 / .598, 112 LSA

well i tore it down to the cam in about 4-5 hours. then i had to wait for parts to come in the mail so in the mean time i cleaned the gasket surfaces and parts-washed the timing cover and water pump. parts came in, started at 9pm thursday, stopped working at 8am friday, then went to work, came home, installed a belt and the radiatior and fired it up..

said and done, first time install on an LS1, took me 15-16 hours.

i also double and triple checked torque specs and procedure and made a few auto parts store runs.

HAHAHAHA why thank you. You see, I wised up.years back, i had an 04 gto and put an MS4 cam in it. when i got my dyno sheet back with the hp and torque climbing still to the moon, and the car at a 6600 rpm redline, i knew it was a waste of potential power band.

A very wise cam designer told me years ago that "the smallest cam that gets the job done is usually the right one." The cam I run in my 577RWHP 427 is smaller than the MS3. It's not worth it to gain 10RWHP but loose 30RWT.

Hehehe, you guys would like the cam Pat G specced for me. 224/230 on 114 with .571 lift. (I have the gmpp heads and wanted something that would lug comfortably and be very easy on valvesprings.) One of these days I'll actually get around to installing it.

I love my Torquer V2. When you get it tuned, the high idle issue will go away. I had the same problem. My cam is on a 114 LSA is the only difference. It pulls nicely from around 1800 and up.
