Default Replaced valve springs, now...clacking?

02 LS6, ~30k HARD miles, mostly track

Did the pass side, no problem, now I did the drivers side and it is clacking to beat hell. Pulled the rockers back off twice now and can't find anything out of sorts. 2 days until I leave for RA. What am I missing?

lets get some more information...

did you start from stock and replace all springs?

did you replace seats/retainers and locks at all?

what springs did you change to, and did you do all 16?

when you re installed the rockers, did you remember the put the pedestals back in?

did you swap your cam too, if so, what size is it, and did you change the pushrods? what length are they?

What's the history? Why were the springs changed? What parts were used? Was the engine rotated appropriately, so you did not torque the rocker down on an open valve during reassembly?

Stock replacement "yellow" springs.

Did the passenger side 6months ago. Best I remember those clattered like hell for a few min then quieted down and I've raced the car mulitple times since with no issues.

Now I'm doing the DRIVERS side and its making the racket.
Reused retainers and locks.

Preventive maintenance on a road race car.

Sorry, was typing in a hurry on sucky work computer.

The pass side I did 6 months ago and everything is fine.
Just did the driver's side this weekend and I can't get it to quiet down.

Sorry for the confusion there. Edited the first post hopefully clearer.

What did you note on visual inspection? Sufficient oiling through the pushrod(did you blow them out before install)? Did you inspect the bearings in the rockers for play, missing bearings, etc?

Simply put, you never want to tighten down a rocker, on an open valve. So you rotate the engine appropriately, to ensure that is the case.

correct, once all are torqued, rotate the crank 180 degrees, and re check your rocker arm nut torque. (i like to use loctite on the rocker bolts as well)

Gee, I hope your wrong on the loc tite.
Book doesn't call for it & I assumed I'd be fine by not adding loc tite when I changed mine out last fall.

Thank's Lucky for the advise you gave me when I switched mine out.

Original poster, never said the torque sequence he did/didn't use?

This is one place where you need to follow the service manual to the letter. I tighten the rockers in the order from the service manual.

Solved.
I'd also pulled the EGR tube off that side and plated over it. Apparently I need a better gasket on the plate to quiet the valve noise coming out of it. I pulled the passenger side tube and put a half-**** plate on it and now it sounds the same. Came to me while taking Court Procedure mid-term. Crap like this 2 days before loading the car on the trailer is why I'm turning gray.

Thanks for the sanity check.

No, this is the incorrect LS1howto procedure. Here is the GM procedure.
