Default No Check Engine Light

I have a 2001 vette. The check engine light does not come on. I tried everything to get this light to come. I used this link to take out the cluster and send it in for repair explaining that the lights were not illuminating like they should.

http://www.vetteessentials.com/instr...ezel_howto.htm

Received the cluster back with the following info: replaced leaky capacitors on power supply board. Inspect unit for loose connection and cold solder joints. Repair as necessary. All functions checked, OK, unable to test florescent lamps, controlled from BCM, 1 year warranty, parts and labor.

I tested all of the fuses, i.e., 10 - 40 amps.

There are several boxed type relays. Can anyone recommend how I can test those?

Re-installed cluster - still no check engine light. Any brilliant answer would help.

Thanks to this forum, I was able to

1. replace my water pump - dealer wanted a $1,000, I did it for $250.
2. diagnose turn signal problem, i.e, it was the hazard switch,
3. tune up my car.
4. replace my oil pressure sensor without removing the manifold.

1st, I would hook up a cheap Actron type OBD reader. It will show the MIL lamp status. I assume you checked the BULB-last guy w/ this problem turned out the bulb was the culprit.

Default No Check Engine Light

I took it thru inspection and it stated:

The Malfunction Indicator Light ( MIL) is broken or not functioning.

Code: P0650

I will use the actron scanner you suggested.

Also, will a GM drive cycle help per this link?

Thanks

I have the circuit test flow chart and will post it tonight when I get home if you still need it for the MIL.

GM hides the OBDII fuse on the cigartette lighter--See if the cig lighter fuse is OK---I know if its blown you can read or flash a tune and any scanner will not communicate --Not sure if the MIL light won't either--but worth a look-see

Default No Check Engine Light

Cigarette Lighter. I will check this first.

WTF kind of testing /repair is that? My bet is bulb. I don't know what kind of testing that was - not to illuminate the lights.

Second:

Ok, I will pull the cluster again and look at the check engine bulb.

Thanks everyone, will post the results.

If you can read codes thru the OBD port, the fuse is OK!

Thanks, I will go to autozone and use their scanner to see if I can read codes thru the OBD port, just to check.

Using the Configurations - Press Fuel 4 times method, I was able to read the codes. Got a lean 1 and a lean 2, but I will fix those after I get the check engine light fixed. I realize this is not the same as reading thru the port, so I will be going to autozone and use their scanner.

Buy one, they are cheap and you can use them on most cars. Let's you see thing you can't thru the DIC.

Thanks everyone, I took the cluster apart, and replaced the check engine bulb, re-installed, and bingo - the check light works.

Thanks for your expertise.
