Default Multifunction switch

Yep, its time, I have all the symtoms, has anyone had trouble / experience with a non OEM replcement part? It seems there could be some savings for a replacement switch if a guy is willing to use an aftermarket mfgr, several vendors have them for a little less.

I have been reading the repair threads. I will try the repair but I fear the failure in the switch is more than just the contacts, when you twist the end of the lever the small plastic gear is binding up and at times spins free. I don't want to take it apart twice, if the switch is jacked, I want have what I need to put it back together.

You can carefully file the contacts, clean up with alcohol and be done with it. Slightly bend the contacts if needed but it should be a done deal.

I just did the switch new as it was only $26 or so. The amount of my labor exceeds the $26 bucks in value.

Where'd you get one for 26 bucks new?

I've been searching and pricing parts for a while now, gmpartshouseusa has the part listed as the combo switch, $224.45, AC direct has it a few bucks cheaper. The corvette vendors, Like Corvette Central, Mid America and Ecklers have them for about $180.00. But they are not an OEM part.

I was just wondering if anyone had any experience with the non OEM part?

As I have searched the part most list it as a "combo switch". I have always refered to them as multifunction switchs. I had some simular light malfunctions with an olds aurora. It was known and listed as a multifunction switch. Considerably more expensive and more difficult to replace than the vette part.

Oh ****... I have yet to replace the switch. I thought the hazzard switch was the multi switch? I need to look in the manual before buying things. I would do the flasher mod before spending that much on that switch.......

You've got it messed up..the flasher bypass mod is what takes care of your HAZARD SWITCH.

The bypass may actually be more than the new switch itself?? It's just "easier" to do the bypass mod. (but your flashers will still be messed up, you'll just have working turn signals)

The multi-funtion switch is for when usually your foglights, dash lights and tail lights don't turn on using the stalk.

The hazard/bypass is for when your turn signals/hazards don't work.

The multi-function switch is about 90 dollars minimum if you find a good used one OR you can take it off, open the little cap and clean/bend the contacts.

edit: and there is no "mod" for bypassing the multi-function switch as there is for the hazard switch...you either fix the contacts, live with it or replace it

Aside from it feeling like something inside is broke when twisting the end of the lever on and off,,,,

Twist the end of the lever to turn the headlights "on", headlight doors open, lamps don't turn on. High beams don't turn on, but, pull lever toward you to flash high beams, they flash, and hold it, and it will hold them on. Yes, I have dove home this way. Turn lights off, headlight doors go down, the lamps turn on. Go figure.

Dash, turn signal, running lights, all normal.

As I messed with it the plastic gear that drives the headlight door on the driver side is showing signs of failure. I'm looking to make all the repairs soon. I have found a new multifunction OEM part for 190.00. It sux but its better that the 345 the stealership wanted.
