Default Turn Signal Help

Hey Everyone, I just purchased my first Corvette and I have found a small (I hope) issue. I have a 2000 Corvette Convertible 6 Speed. When I am driving the car, the turn signal will work off and on. When I use the lever to signal, it will turn on sometimes and then other times there will be nothing there on the heads up or the normal dash. It is like there is no power to it at all. I was just wondering if anyone else has had this issue or if there is a quick fix. I am ready to enjoy my car and this is something I really need to get fixed.

Thanks in advance.

Dave

Good info! I just went to the site and they are out of stock though so we'll have to wait for them to re-stock.

Another cause for this can be corrosion at the lamp connector. The front housing is prone to water leakage. While you are waiting to source a hazard switch, you might want to check for this. Search for suggestions on how to change the lamp, and while you are in there, clean the contacts. Worked for me .... AFTER I had already changed the hazard switch!

While you are waiting, you can also switch on and off the hazard lamps a few times to see if the switch is just corroded. Sometimes just working it will bring it back to life for a while.

"This is only a temporary fix, unless it works."

This worked on my son's Z28; he had intermittently slow blinkers on alternating sides. Just have to exercise things once in a while, like the passenger window motor.

Thanks for all of the help. I did play with the hazard switch for a little while last night and that was intermittent at first and then after a while with pushing it is seemed to work. The car did come out of Florida, so the change in climate may have messed with it a little also. Hopefully this will work for a while until I can locate the bypass. What exactly does the bypass do? The signals will work without using the hazard switch with this?

Thanks again!!

The bi-pass cable totally bi-passes the OEM switch and provides a plugin replacement. It's definitely the way to go. I installed mine in my 2000 convert 3 years ago and it has been rock solid. The temp fix suggested above is also very good advice. You might even try spraying some PLASTIC SAFE electrical contact cleaner into the OEM hazard switch ( around the edge of the button) before exercising it 15-20 times. I did this on/off for a year before I actually bought and installed the bi-pass cable. Good luck, Ron

PS: The bi-pass cable costs about $65 and takes 20-30 minutes to install depending on handy you are.

My brake lights didn't work because of the bad flasher unit. I pulled up the center console and pulled out the radio to get to the flasher unit. Sounds like a PITA but it was actually quite easy. Flasher unit cost me 40 bucke from the dealer. about and hour and a half to fix. I did it and I'm not a pro. Do a search and I'm sure you'll find the step by step instructions somewhere here. Good luck!
