Default T56 (M12) rebuild question

My 02z got suck on 4th gear a few weeks ago so I need to go through it. What parts should I replace while im in there? Does the z06 have a steel 3-4 shift fork or do I need to get one? I know billet keys are a must. Should I replace the syncro blockers? Where is the best place to buy the parts? I would appreciate any help.

I reccomend the gear box. Web site may be gearbox.org

I have bought many of parts from them. If your car got stuck in 4th gear it broke the keys on the 3-4 synchro. What kind of miles are on the car? bearings in the t56's are usually good still at 60k or so. If you get a basic rebuild kit it should come with the blockers, those are a wearable items. I personally would get the bronze shift for pads along with all the billet keys. Yes its expensive but how many time would you want to take it apart? T56's are not bad to rebuild but take your time and keep everything organized.

Hope this helps

The car has 40k on it and I really wasnt wanting to replaced the bearings. I figure while im there i would replace the blockers fork pads fork and 3-4 keys. Does the kit from the gearbox come with stock blockers or are the upgraded? I priced everything out and its coming to almost 700 for parts. OUCH!

Does my car have a steel 3-4 shift fork or do I need to buy one?

The blockers are a stock replacement but the 1-2 & 3-4 use whats called triple cone synchro. In other words it really strong and the material to use for slowing down the gears is doubled, that why they are pricey! On the shift fork I am unsure on what year the Corvette went to a steel 3-4 fork. On F-body's it was mostly 2002 but even those are hit and miss. You can email or call the gear box before ordering to determine that. Are you going to rebuild this yourself? Also if you broke your keys for 3-4 all ready it wouldnt be a bad idea to have a new 3-4 synchro on hand

There are also free Tremec service manuals available for download online so dont buy one!
