Default Spark plug wire protection?

Finishing up the header install on the car and I also installed new GM Red wires. The seem to have very minimal clearance to the headers no matter how I move them.

Has any else installed something like the DEI boot/wire protectors when doing a header install for the extra insurance? Or did you reinstall the factory metal sleeves on the ends and call it a day?

Thanks.

I used heat resistant socks (long to cover entire wire length).

DEI makes some nice ones. Some guy is selling a set of blue ones in the C5 parts for sale section.

Ya I was looking at the ones DEI makes, wasn't sure how well they worked.

I saw the ones in the classified section. Great price but they are blue, I want the red ones to match the car of course.

Thanks for the suggestion guys.

They basically slide over the wire. They work GREAT!

I bought mine through summit racing for $55; if I recall correctly.

The blue ones sold.

Shipping was VERY fair and quick and the price was the best I could find.

They are worth the MONEY! The wire under the oil cap (most forward wire on the passenger side) typically is the worse one with touching the header pipe.

Not sure why you would care what color the wires are, I can't see mine under the plastic engine covers. I suppose if you're running without the covers they would show but most of us don't eliminate the covers on our engines.

PS--certainly nothing wrong with removing the covers, just that with them on the wire color doesn't seem to mater.

I found a set on Ebay for $48 shipped. Not too shabby. Thanks for your help!

You know what? That never crossed my mind. Oh well, too late now for the bargain ones.

At least in my head I know everything matches.
